Local high-end couture designer, Jovian Mandagie recently unveiled the the Malaysian traditional themed National Costume, which will be adorned by reigning Miss Universe Malaysia, Kimberly Leggett at the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, USA.
Simply named the Kebaya Mandagie, the kebaya is a elaborate black and white piece featuring an intricate mix of French and German lace, French tulle, and ostrich and bird feathers for the kebaya top, and vintage hand-drawn Malaysian batik from Terengganu for the skirt.
At the press conference in conjunction with the unveiling of the Kebaya Mandagie, Jovian said, “The inspiration behind producing this national costume for Kimberly came from her own stunning, bright and beautiful persona and aura. The main essence behind the outfit is its edgy, sexy, strong and elegant elements which make up the essence and uniqueness of Kimberly Leggett. The black and white color theme chosen further adds a mystical, unique and exquisite and brave touch to it”.
He also described this exclusive creation as being a work of art; a labour of love; and a timeless heritage. He added, “It is an elegant, feminine, alluring, sensual, glamorous and fashionable piece, all at the same time”.
The dress comes in a hue of pewter silver and lavender, giving the dress an essence of being bold and strong at the same time. The dress is also complete with his first-grade craftsmanship of fine detailing with Swarovski crystals and fine silk threads the complete the resplendent look.
In addition to the representing Malaysian with Jovian Mandagie’s unique creation, Kimberly will also be giving away specially designed Sereni & Shentel headbands to the other contestants in the pageant, as part of Miss Universe Malaysia’s National Token Gift to the other contestants. The headbands are also inspired by the beauty of pua’ prints of the Iban people of Sarawak, home to Sereni & Shentel.
Miss Universe Malaysia 2012, Kimberly Legget will be compete for the coveted Miss Universe title on 19 December 2012, at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
