For the sixth year running, A Journey Through Time, Asia’s greatest luxury watch and jewelry showcase will be held at Starhill Gallery. With support from Tourism Malaysia, this year’s event is themed “A Masterpiece of Creation” and for this coming 10 days, the latest and most innovative collections from the world’s most famous brands will be displayed.
Starhill Gallery has invited Shila Amzah who is only 22-year-old rising star and also winner of the Asian Wave 2012 awards. She will be doing exclusive performances on the 27, 28 and 29th of November 2012 on stage at Shook! Starhill Gallery. The half hour performance will see Shila showcasing her voice and her versatility as she will be singing songs in English, Malay and Mandarin.
We were able to sit with the songstress and we talked to her a little more about what to expect from her performances along with her thoughts of performing infront of big and small crowds:
Q: What do you have to say about this opportunity
S: First of all I want to say thank you for noticing me. I think this is a good platform for me to unleash my talent – because all differnet kinds of people will attend this event, so I’ll to catering to a different kind of crowd. Plus, this is an event that is held here in malaysia, so I am very proud to be able to be here. Hopefully I can make Malaysia proud.
Q: What kind of songs will be expecting from you this time performance?
S: Because there is a lot of differnet types of people coming, it will be a challenge because I usually cater to younger teens up to people in their 30’s. But for this particular crowd, I might have to change things a little. I’ll be mixing oldies, along with current songs and some covers too. Ofcourse, i’ll be singing a few mandrin songs. Starhill Gallery has personally requested that i sing, Wang Le Homs “Forever Love” – so i will be singing that for sure.
Q: You’ll be singing for three days straight – do you have one particular song list you’ll be following for all three nights or will it be all different?
S: Ofcourse i’ll have to change it up. On the first night, i’ll be focusing on the bigger crowd which may hold a younger crowd so i’ll make it more upbeat and light at the same time. Then for the second and third day, since it will be a private event, i’ll be trying something new and more intimate and more appropriate for the settings that it is.
Q: How is it like sining at a stadium compared to seeing infront of a small intimate crowd?
S: When you sing in a stadium, it’s like your alone because you don’t get to see everyone so the connection is different. Making sure everyone gets your message is a little different. When you’re performaning for a smaller crowd, it’s more connected because everyone who watches can relate more easily. Both are very different.
Q: How old were you when you first performed for a public crowd?
S:Hmmm, when I was younger, I used to go to kareoke a lot – but the first time I ever full performed I think I was 7… On RTM with my dad.. Since I sung a duet with my father in 1997, it just happened. It was a good experience.
Q: Will you be singing with a live band at this event?
Given the song selection, I’m going with a minus-1 because I’m so busy and the sceduele doesn’t give me enough time to practice with a live band. So it is easier to use a minus-1 to help back me up – and since it’s also a more intimate crowd, there’s no need for a band.
Shila Amzah will be performing from the 27th – 29th November 2012 (The 27th is opened to the public and 28th+29th is made my booking)
