We’re right where we left off from the first half of Breaking Dawn where Bella is turned into a vampire after a near-death experience while giving birth to Renesmee.
Bella now finds herself with new strength and capabilities, and not forgetting her chance to ‘sparkle’. While Bella adapts to her new life, she and Edward are also troubled by Renesmee’s hi-speed growth, where she’s an adorable infant one day, and a full-grown 4 year old the next.
One a snowy day, Bella enjoys a day out with Renesmee out in the open, only to be spotted by Irina, who identifies Renesmee as an immortal child.
An “immortal child” is a child that has been turned into a vampire, making them a greater threat to society due to their uncontrollable urge to feed. The Volturi consider immortal children as outlaws, thus persecuting them to death, including the family members who care for it.
As soon as Irina informs the Volturi about Renesmee, they set out to punish the Cullens for their crime.
In order to prove that Renesmee is not an immortal child, the Cullens gather vampire clans from all the world to vouch for their family.
Our Review
If you’ve not read the entire Twilight saga in print, you’ll be glad to know that Breaking Dawn II carries a solid storyline that is both traditional and packing some serious unexpected suspense!
A fine part of the movie is to watch Kristen portray Bella as a new maternal figure that is truly protective and courageous, putting her family above herself. It also appears that the “Team Jacob vs. Team Edward” craze would be put to rest as Jacob and Edward finally put aside their vast differences in order to protect Renesmee and Bella.
Another thumbs up goes to epic entrance of the two statuesque Amazonian vampires that rattle the trees. For one who knows very little of the Twilight saga, that was certainly one of the many cool bits of the film
Despite a decent storyline, the movie seems to lack a lot of in terms of the production, especially since it’s the final chapter of the saga. Here’s three things about Breaking Dawn Part II that what we found disappointing:-
a) The awfully cheesy opening credits that was more fitting for a C-grade horror flick. The opening score started way too quickly and it made us wonder if we were in the right movie.
b) Kristen Stewart’s acting did improve slightly, but her excitement over her new-found strength was not at all convincing!
c) Infant CGI Renesmee. We understand why they needed a CGI production for Renesmee to create a unique child that seemed way more relaxed than real one, but did they have to dramatize the Renesmee’s features to sheer perfection that it is obviously fake? We feel kinda bad for the actors having to endure this level this silliness.
But to make up for all those cheesiness, a serious twist towards the final battle with the Cullens agains the Volturi that magnifies the entire story-line, a perfect way to end the final chapter of the story. And not forgetting more hot Amazonians for some non-pale vampire eye candy! The movie is certainly mystifying, and we recommend not missing out on this story, whether or not you’re a fan of Twilight!
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II premieres in Malaysia on 22 November 2012.
