When it comes to the adaptations of comic books in movies, it gets a little complicated. Following the structure of a comic book is important, but you also have to balance it with making the movie all worth while. Here are a few good adaptations of superheros and comic book characters put on screen. From action packed fighting to quirky and fun romance… Here are the Top 6 comic book related movies:
1. Scott Pilgram vs. The World
Staring: Michael Cera, Alison Pill, Mark Webber
This is probably one of the best comic-book adaptations out there. The story is based on Scott Pilgrim, who is a boy that must defeat his new girlfriend’s seven evil exes in order to win her heart. Not only does this movie go hand in hand with the original comic book, but it pinpoints perfectly the intersection between comics, video games and movies – with a touch of romance.
2. Iron Man
Staring: Robert Downey Jr. , Gwyneth Paltrow
Who doesn’t love a little iron man – based on the Marvel collection of comic books, this movie not only brings out the character IronMan, but it changes the way we look at superhero films. It’s action packed, and full of excitement, yet it still sticks to the comic book. Plus, if it wasn’t doing so good, they wouldn’t be on the third movie now, right?
3. Batman: The Dark Night
Staring: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger
There has been many adaptations of The Batman – in all kinds of form. But, Christopher Nolan was the man for the job. His vision of Gotham City brought everything to the next level. From Bruce Wayne worries on harming the city, to the Jokers endless psychotic mind games – the movie just keeps you on the edge of your seat. The Dark Night Rises (the one after this) was also just as good, and after all, it was the finale, but it ended at just the right time.
4. The Avengers
Staring: Robert Downy Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth
This movie was a combination over everything you love about superhero comics – from the silver age, right up until today. The combination of all the Marvel superheroes, coming together – this just brings everything to the next level. The Avengers managed to pack in enough action and character and humor and pathos to do all of its heroes justice… but it was definitely worth the wait.
5. Spiderman 2
Staring: Toby Maguire, Kristen Dunst, James Franco
Though, this entire Spiderman sequels have been a little too over done – Spiderman 2 has got to be the best one out of it all. Though Sam Raimi did his own little version to this – there are some parts that still stuck to the comic book, and that’s what counts. In this movie, Peter Parker is faced with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a brilliant scientist named Doctor Otto Octavius, who becomes Doctor Octopus (aka Doc Ock), after an accident causes him to bond psychically with mechanical tentacles that do his bidding.
6. . X-2: X-Men United
Staring: Patrik Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Barry
X-men is based on the DC comic characters coming together for battle. The best part of any X-men sequel, is the fact that no matter what, the history of the character is important. There is always a good reason why they do what they do, and act the way they do. The combination of evil and good is perfect. In this particular sequel, The X-Men band come together to find a mutant assassin who has made an attempt to kill the President, and at the same while the Mutant Academy is attacked by military forces.
