1. Jennifer Aniston’s ‘The Rachel’
Named after Jennifer Aniston‘s most iconic character in US sitcom Friends, The Rachel was a simple medium-length haircut that was layered and blow-dried to perfection. However, Aniston revealed in an interview that the haircut was “the ugliest I’ve ever seen”. (Source)
Say what you will, Jen, but everyone seems to be opting for it, including 19-year old pop star, Miley Cyrus.
2. Amy Winehouse’s Beehive
The beehive hairstyle remains as the symbol of 1960’s kitsch. Even Audrey Hepburn rocked it in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. But the late Amy Winehouse brought it back with a bang, making it extraordinarily huge, while rocking her 60’s rock chick look to the max. As music enthusiasts took note of her soulful vocal talents, the fashion world took note of her and style.
3. Justin Bieber’s Flick
Justin Bieber garnered popularity with is sweet-as-candy pop music, but his iconic hairstyle may have earned more popularity than his songs ever did. However, as the world began imitating his flick, he popstar decided to “change it up a little bit”. He said in an interview “Once I had my hair, I felt everybody else started to do the same thing, so I decided to change it.” (Source)
4. Bettie Page Bangs
Bettie Page pioneered this now signature pin-up girl itty-bitty bangs. ‘Bettie bangs’ are blunt bangs that stand just inches above the eyebrows, and would curve down slightly at the center.
Bettie bangs are now popular among modern day rockabilly and alt-chicks. Even Katy Perry donned them in 2012 at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards.
5. Elvis Presley’s Pompadour
Elvis certainly was a foxy howling dog back in the day, but we can’t ever forget that never forget the King of Rock n Rolk’s sharp pompadour! Bad boy American actor James Dean also favored the pomp, but Elvis made it uniquely his with the mutton-chop sideburns.
6. Mia Farrow’s Pixie Cut
It was the famous haircut in history, where Vidal Sassoon himself flew all the way from London just to give Mia Farrow a pixie cut for her role in Rosemary’s Baby. The haircut was documented by photographers on Paramount studios in a boxing ring set up as a stage, and photos circulated all over the world.
The pixie haircut became popular among supermodels in the 90’s, but was especially revived by English model, Agyness Deyn.
7. Bridgitte Bardot’s Voluminous Hair
Bridgitte Bardot pioneered the messy bedhead look, keeping it simple with a cat-liner and a nude pout.
To replicate her look in the simplest way, simply to to sleep with a high ponytail tied up in a scrunchie and spritz with a little light-hold spray. Simply tease it a little when you wake up, and you’ve got big voluminous hair ala Bridgitte.
8. Farah Fawcett’s 70S Flick
Before the ‘Rachel’, there was the ‘Farrah’. Charlie’s Angel’s star Farrah Fawcett took the 70’s style scene by storm with her feathered mane that was a fresh feminine look when Afros and bouffants dominated the era.
The modern take on this fluffy hairdo is now a little tame with more flawy loose curls as seen on Katie Holmes.
