Over 3000 people gathered in Publika Boulevard and Square recently for the #ChurpOut2012, a one-of-a-kind social media festival showcasing the best of local acts, top social media influencers, celebrities, fashion and YouTube stars while raising funds for charity.

Behind #ChurpOut2012 was ChurpChurp, a social media community that aims to bring together social media influencers in Malaysia and reward them for sharing the latest happenings, trends and brands with their friends.

Co-founder of ChurpChurp, Timothy Tiah said ““We wanted to create an environment where social media users could connect with one another, and enjoy themselves too. We made sure #ChurpOut2012 had a bit of everything with a marketplace for social media users, fashionistas and shoppers, a stage to captivate music lovers and artists, an inspiration corner for aspiring volunteers and those in need of inspiration, and of course an area for games where everyone can have a blast and walk home with cool prizes”.

As part of a charity initiative by ChurpChurp, a buzz of excitement swept across the marketplace where influential online fashion icons like Sazzy Falak, Joyce Wong, Hanis Zalikha, Maria Eelena, Audrey aka Fourfeetnine, Ringo aka Cheesie and more, set up shops showcasing some of their pre-loved fashion hunts. In conjunction with Pink Ribbon month, a percentage of each sale was committed to various Breast Cancer Awareness Socieities of the influencer’s choice.

Official partners for #ChurpOut2012 included Xpax, BCard and Durex. Guests that signed u for a BCard received vouchers worth RM1,000 while Durex enthralled the crowd with the longest ‘rap’ rhymes as an innovative way to create awareness about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Carnival activities such as ring tossing, rodeo bull and other games gave winners a chance to walk away with exclusive goodie bags. The Xpax Whatchuwant Dunk & Draw were undoubtedly the biggest crowd-pleasers, where attendees could get dunked for a chance to win prizes. Celebrities such as DJ Fuzz, Jeremy Teo, Natalie Kniese, Beautifulnara, Joseph Germani and more also joined in on the fun for dunk!

Onstage, the crowd was entertained by performing arts community Kaki Seni, top cheerleading group Cheer Aces, and local bands such as at the Malaysian Ukelele Group, Skyward and Silence Speaks. Local YouTube stars Dan Khoo Productions, Reuben Kang of JinnyboyTV, Josept Germani, The Ming Thing and others also made an appearance and got up to their usual goofy stunts.

As nightfall approached, big stars came out to play – Daphne Iking dropped some old school hip hop tracks on the desk, which Fashion Valet took center stage with a sneak peak of its latest collection with models from the Amber Chia Academy. To culminate a fantastic finale, DJ Fuzz pumped up the crowd with his signature beats and tracks.
