Halloween is just around the corner – and if you’re not up for going out or dressing up, then pop up some popcorn and get ready to be spooked with these movies! There will be gore, there will supernatural encounters, and there will be a whole load of fear being thrown around.
Here’s a list of horror movies that will get you on the edge of your seats. So turn off the lights, and watch them… if you dare!
1. Saw
Staring: Leigh Whannell, Cary Elwes, Danny Glover
Two men wake up in the secure lair of a serial killer who’s been nicknamed “Jigsaw”. The men must follow various rules and objectives if they wish to survive and win the deadly game set for them. There has been several sequels to this movie – but if you’re up for it, start from the first and move up. The amount of gore within this movie is bound to keep you on the edge of your seat!
2. 28 Days Later
Staring: Alex Palmer, David Schneider, Bindu De Stoppani
Four weeks after a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors try to find sanctuary – there is a infestation of zombies and a strive for survival. Watch how they try to fight their life through.
3. The Shutter
Staring: Ananda Everingham, Natthaweeranuch Thongmee
There are two versions to this movie, but we would suggest the original one, which is in Thai. The story is about a young photographer and his girlfriend discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after a tragic accident. They soon learn that you can not escape your past. We promise you, this movie will make you jump in ways you couldn’t imagine.
4. The Women In Black
Staring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Shorey, Molly Harmon, Jessica Raine
This is the story of a young lawyer travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals. This movie has got that eerie feel that will strike a sort of fear. Since it is set back in the earlier days, the entire feel is different for a ‘horror’ movie.
5. The Possession
Staring: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Natasha Calls, Madison Davenport, Grant Show
What horror movie night would be complete without a movie about possession, curses and exorcisms. A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl’s father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.
6. Sinister
Staring: Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance,James Ransone, Red Dalton Thompson
This is a new addition to the horror movies – in fact, it’s still in the cinema right now. The story revolves around a found footage that helps a true-crime author realize how and why a family was murdered in his new home, though his discoveries put his entire family in the path of a supernatural entity.
7. Psycho (1960)
Staring: Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, Janet Leigh
You can’t ever forget the classics when it comes to a horror movie night. And, Psycho is not one to miss. A young woman steals $40,000 from her employer’s client, and subsequently encounters a young motel proprietor too long under the domination of his mother. You can reminisce over the most iconic moments in movie history.
8. Jaws (1975)
Staring: Robert Shaw, Lorraine Gary, Richard Dreyfuss, Susan Backlinie
When a gigantic great white shark begins to menace the small island community of Amity, a police chief, a marine scientist and grizzled fisherman set out to stop it. Sure, computer graphics have come a long way, but nothing beats the classic. Turn off the lights and watch this, you’re bound to still feel that sense of fear.
9. Carrie (1976)
Staring: Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, John Travolta, Nancy Allen
A mousy and abused girl with telekinetic powers gets pushed too far on one special night. It’s another classic and one that is freaky in ways that we can’t explain. A remake for Carrie is in the making. We’re curious to see how well it does!
10. Silent Hill
Staring: Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Kim Coates
This is a must watch if you want to really get knock of fear. A woman goes in search for her daughter, within the confines of a strange, desolate town called Silent Hill. This movie is based on a video game.
