Tobacco giant BAT (British American Tobacco) has announced that it has increased the price for its cigarette brands in Malaysia. The price hike of 20 sen starts today and affects all brands under BAT Malaysia, including Dunhill, Kent, Pall Mall and others.
William Toh, Managing Director of BAT Malaysia, said that they were informed by the Royal Malaysian Customs of the cigarette pricing: “We were officially informed by the Royal Malaysian Customs on Thursday, Oct 18, 2012, of a mandated uplift in the ex-factory pricing of our cigarettes of between 26 per cent to 58 per cent effective Friday, Oct 19, 2012. The consequence is that excise and sales tax payable has increased.”
All BAT Malaysia cigarette brands are now priced between RM8.70 – RM10.60.
