BMW Group Malaysia has recently revealed the latest BMW-funded production, a short film by Quek Shio Chuan called ‘Sid & Barry’. Quek was the winner of BMW Shorties 2011, a short film competition first gained recognition with his short film, ‘Guang’.
He also received the award for Best Short Film Award at the prestigious Alto Vicentino Film Festival in Santorso, Italy this year. Apart from the Alto Vicentino, Guang also received awards for Best Film and Audience Choice Awards at the 4th Who Likes Short Shorts? Film Festival (USA), Best Film and Best Film – Alternate World Awards at the 10th Irpen Film Festival (Ukraine), Best Film Award at the 10th In The Palace Film Festival (Bulgaria), Best Direction, and Best Cinemato-graphy Awards at the 4th Malta International Television Short Film Festival (Malta).
With a string of awards under his belt, Quek is an inspiration to the local film-making community that Malaysian film makers are as talented as any in the world! Quek’s latest short film, Sid & Barry was recently premiered. It is a haunting short film that looks into the themes of life, death and rebirth.
