Always had a problem when it came to feeding your young one especially since you are aware that breast milk is no longer sufficient for your young one? The Mother’s Smart Choice Programme was launched in 2011 and it was an effort which was put together by the Nutrition Society of Malaysia, Paediatric Association, the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Malaysia and The National Population and Family Development Board. The programme is also supported by Philips AVENT.
The programme which is currently in its second phase aims to create awareness among mothers about the importance of appropriate feeding practices as it is important for infants and young children to receive adequate nutrition an d minerals for their growth especially when they are within the age of 6 to 12 months.
The MSC programme which runs in three different phases published a free guide book entitled “Breastfeed with Confidence” to hospitals and have distributed 11,000 copies during its first phase.
Philips AVENT contributed to this programme by providing convenient kitchen implements and an extensive range of feeding utensils for mothers. According to Mr Naeem Shahab, Chief Executive Officer at Philips Malaysia Sdn Bhd, “the complimentary feeding phase is a fun learning time for infants. Parents who listen to their baby’s messages help develop responsive feeding relationships.”
During this time, it is also important for mothers to ensure that food prepared for infants are safe and it should be also have a proper texture so that it won’t harm the young one. It’s also possible for your young on to suffer from lack of minerals and vitamins if the type of food which is fed isn’t right.
To support the second phase of this programme, MSC has published free guidebooks entitled “Complimentary Feeding Confidence” equipped with recipe ideas from renowned chef – Marina Mustafa. It will be distributed to several hospitals within Klang Valley and it contains information to help parents ensure that their child grows in a healthy manner. To find out more about this guidebook, look out for the educational posters which will be placed in hospitals and clinics nationwide.
