In April 27 2012, a 12-year-old Dutch national, Nayati Shamelin Moodliar was abducted by two men in a black car while walking to school in Mont Kiara at 7.35am.

The case was captured by the public with posters of the Nayati appearing in every nook and corner across the Klang Valley after he went missing. His kidnapping also sparked concern of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak when he Tweeted, ” I appeal as a father for Nayati not to be harmed in any way”.

Fortunately, he was released at a Sungai Buloh rest and recreation area on May 3rd. Subsequent to the release, four suspects were detained, where they were tasked to negotiate with the parents to collect a huge ransom.

Just around 10 months after the incident, three of the alleged kidnappers, Chong Tat Siong, Foong Khar Fai, and Lee Phak Seng claimed trial to the kidnapping Nayati with the intent to get a RM300,000 ransom. The trio had their charges re-read for the first time since the case was transferred to the High Court on the September 28.

Sources also say that they would be adducing 30 witnesses, including Nayati, who will also take stand in the trail of his alleged kidnappers before the High Court.

Under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, the three could face the death penalty, or life imprisonment and possible whipping if spared the death penalty, if they are convicted. (Source)
