Nelly Furtado is a name most people won’t forget – with songs like ‘I’m Like A Bird’ and ‘Maneater’ embedded into our memory, you can’t help but love her and her music. This Canadian singer, songwriter and actress has gone through all kinds of genres and experiments and her music is dubbed one of the most innovative in the industry.
With her new album ‘The Spirit Indestructible’ being released very soon, we take a look at the evolution of Nelly Furtado, from her music to her personal style!
Whoa, Nelly! (2000)
Nelly Furtado’s career started with ‘Whoa, Nelly’. With three hit singles topping the charts (‘I’m Like A Bird’ ‘Turn Off The Lights’ and ‘On The Radio’) this album earned her four Grammy nominations in 2002!
So what about her style at that time?
Folkore (2003)
Her second album sounded more diverse and experimental than ‘Whoa, Nelly!’ – she tested out different beats and focused on deep lyrics and messages. The song ‘Childhood Dreams’ was dedicated to her daughter, Nevis and in 2004, her song ‘Força’ was used as the theme song for the European Football Championship.
Loose (2006)
After a long break Nelly Furtado came back to the music scene with a big bang. Showing us her ‘sexy’ side with her album ‘Loose’ – she decided to try completely new things. Who knew there was such a fierce side to Nelly Furtado!
Hit tunes like ‘Maneater’ and ‘Promiscuous Girl’ were a result of collaborating with musical maestros like Timbaland and Justin Timberlake – there is no doubt that this album was an instant hit!
As for her style, that took a turn, too! Look at how sexy she has become.
After another long break, Nelly presented her debut Spanish album. It was well-received by music critics, and reached the top spot on the US Latin Billboard chart.
But, that’s not all for Nelly Furtado – she’s coming back with more! This September, Nelly will be releasing her newest album ‘Spirit Indestructible’. She has already released her first single from this album, ‘Big Hoops’ and we’re pretty sure this will be another hit on the radio! We’re hearing a little bit of the hip-hop vibe from her first album. We’re excited to hear more!
