Their mum battled cancer for seven years and passed away when they were young. Despite going through a hard time, they saw the light to the tunnel. It was religion which played an important role. Today the two sisters are travelling around the world and performing in different countries.
We are talking about no one other than Jayesslee. Janice and Sonia are twins and they started singing in their bedroom. One day, they discovered the thing called YouTube.
Like any other parent, their dad behaved like this:
“Our dad never believed in YouTube and he actually thought that it was a joke. We started it of as a hobby and he always said to us that you need to go to college, university and get a proper education and get a proper job. That was his mentality and everytime we were just singing in our room, he would make noise. It was really disappointing to us as he was our dad and he never supported us at all.”
Upon discovering YouTube, the two started to post videos up in 2008. They created an account under the name of Jayesslee and in 2009, their cover of Tamia’s “Officially Missing You” hit over a million views.
This was their first studio experience:
“It was our very first time and going from recording in our living room and upgrading to a studio with big head phones and mikes was an extremely exciting experience. We recorded 5 songs and we chose those 5 songs with a heart to commemorate our journey of how we got here. It is the same songs but its very different with the little additional effects.”
When will their first album be launched?
“We can’t say the exact date right now but it is going to be really soon. We know our fans are waiting and we are going to get it out ASAP.”
Their tiny little secret to success?
“The biggest thing for us was to really keep it real. The one thing which really keeps drawing us back to artist and musicians is to see a genuine personality. That is the one thing which will keep growing your fan base because then you would want to have a friendship with your viewers.”
They struggled and now they are on their way to success. Not there yet but almost. The sisters also said that they would like to thank their dad very much because the very moment they started to get the hits, he started to show them his support. Besides their dad, they would also like to thank their church community who has supported them as well right until today.
