Chewing Gums Causes Wrinkles?

You chew and chew and chew that gum which is in your mouth but sometimes you just do not feel like chewing yet you still end up chewing because you feel different not chewing something all of a sudden.

It is a habit and it’s hard to break it especially if you are trying to stop smoking but do you know that if you chew excessively, the chances of you developing wrinkles is quite high?

How is this possible? The Telegraph.co.uk reported in 2010 that when you chew on gums excessively, then the muscles around your mouth is overused and it will eventually start to break down. This will contribute to wrinkles as your skin will loose its elasticity and will form the lines around your mouth.

But do not be afraid as this only happens to those who chew excessively. Excessive here is defined as having more than 2 gums per hour.

But what are the other side effects of chewing too much gum? According to an article published in the Guardian.co.uk, chewing gums can also cause your teeth to decay faster especially if you do not have the habit of brushing your teeth at least twice a day. Gums can reduce cavities, but when your mouth has too much of acid, it can cause your enamel to erode.

Temporomandibular joint disorders can also be one of the reasons why you would develop severe pain on your jaws, necks and sometimes back. This happens as your nerves are over stressed when you chew too much and eventually this will start to cause you a lot of discomfort and could disrupt your daily activities.

Try to reduce chewing gums if you realized that you have been chewing excessively. Chewing gums are good as it can be used as a stress relaxant but do it in moderation as the saying goes “if one oversteps the bounds of moderation, the greatest pleasures cease to please.”
