You know Marvel has done well when even comic books have taken to the runway. Besides, what better way to promote the “comics are no longer reserved for geeks” movement better than to inject collaboration between fashion and some of the world’s favourite superheroes?
We’re talking about the great “comical hoo-ha” that just took place at the Australian Fashion Week.
The superheroes of catwalk took on an eccentric and quirky theme when models sashayed down the stage dressed in super-heroic inspired gear for Spring/Summer 2013. Sponsored by Marvel, the collection is the brainchild of designers, Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett. The duo took the liberty to travel through time and back into the last seven decades of Marvel Comics to create over 20 stunning Marvel-themed outfits.
Some of the evergreen Marvel favourites such as Spiderman, Hulk, and Avengers were featured. Can you say, “nerdy chic”? Brilliant!
Of course, the models’ looks wouldn’t have been complete without perfectly matching makeup. So their faces too were mad up with cartoon eyes, carelessly (but in fact carefully) unswept hair, topped off with bright orange licks. Coupled with some sparkle action.
When asked, Plunkett said, “We’ve been dreaming this since last year. We kept thinking about how powerful colour is and we wanted people to get that.”
Well, they most certainly did.
Needless to say, it evoked all senses of the Australian Fashion Week’s bloggers, PRs, editors, buyers, media, and other guests. The event continues with other shows in a heavily packed schedule but we already know which designers have successfully stolen the week.
