Lipstiq.com’s ’24 Hours’ travel series introduces cities and towns you can visit for a quick getaway. Our first destination is Penang, the northwestern Malaysian state that’s also known as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’.

We went to the most common touristic destinations in and around George Town, from the famous Kek Lok Si Temple to the scenic beaches of Batu Ferringhi. Join us in our mission to visit, see, try and taste the best of Penang in just 24 hours!

Travel tips:

  • Pack light. It’s easier to carry a backpack or sports bag, especially when you’re travelling by bus.
  • You don’t need a lot of clothes for a weekend trip, but remember that you’ll sweat a lot (especially in our Malaysian weather!), so you might want to change your top or t-shirt halfway through the day (that’s what we did!).
  • Research beforehand and plan your travel itinerary (down to the hour!) to make sure you know where the places are, and to see if you can fit everything in 24 hours.
  • Think about the transportation system in the city you’re going to visit. For example, it’s not easy to move around in Penang without a car (and we didn’t have much time to waste…so we can’t afford to wait by the side of the road for cabs all the time), so we decided to rent one.

We fell in love with Penang after this trip, and although 24 hours is never enough, it’s a great place to go to for a weekend trip! If you’ve decided to try it out, do let us know the places that you visited!
