Sunsilk, a leading haircare brand by Unilever, in collaboration with Mydin Malaysia, recently concluded the ‘Unlock Possibilities, Empower Dreams’ campaign, raising RM100,000.00 for Women of Will (WOW), a non-profit organization committed to empowering women and their communities through entrepreneurial and community development programmes.
WOW’s Executive Director, Lakshwin Muruga highlighted the numerous challenges faced by B40 women, from managing households to generating income that supports the family. The Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated these challenges, with up to 70% of B40 women entrepreneurs experiencing a reduction in their income. The lack of working capital and essential skills for effective online competition underscores the need for skills development and business capital to establish sustainable income sources that can improve their families’ living standards.
Therefore, Sunsilk has pledged to donate RM1 from every RM8 and above spent on Sunsilk products sold at Mydin stores through this campaign.
“At Sunsilk, we believe in unlocking possibilities for girls and women everywhere. We are honoured to support WOW and are committed to helping them empower women living in poverty by providing essential skills and knowledge to develop sustainable and profitable businesses for themselves and their communities. We hope this contribution will pave the way towards financial independence and a brighter future,” said Natalie Goh, Marketing Lead at Sunsilk.
The funds contributed by Sunsilk will support the development of entrepreneurial skills and community leadership among 350 women across more than 20 rural communities in Sook, Keningau, Sabah. The entrepreneurship skill development will include training modules, group coaching, and a support system. WOW will also identify and enhance the leadership and project management skills of current entrepreneurs through modules from their Community Leadership Development Program. By nurturing leadership skills, WOW aims to build a network of capable leaders who can drive sustainable development and foster community empowerment and cohesion.
During the cheque handover ceremony, representatives from Sunsilk, Mydin, WOW and social media influencers Elya Maisara and Bella Dowanna gathered to pack and distribute 100 care packages to women living in PPR Taman Wahyu and Raya Permai. These thoughtfully prepared care packages include essential items and Sunsilk products aimed at enhancing their personal care and well-being.
Sunsilk’s campaign reflects its deep-rooted belief in the power of women and community. Globally, Sunsilk has collaborated with partners to create programmes to help girls achieve their dreams. By supporting WOW, Sunsilk is committed to continue to champion initiatives that create positive, lasting impacts on society.
