Marvel and Christian Louboutin are delighted to celebrate Disney100 with a global lifestyle collection featuring shoes and accessories for women, men and children dedicated to the Marvel Universe. The limited capsule collection launches alongside an exclusive comic book introducing a super hero based on — and co-created by — Christian Louboutin himself. This collaboration offers Marvel and Christian Louboutin’s highly engaged consumers the opportunity to experience a unique and meaningful product created by both brands, and further demonstrates Marvel as a leader in the luxury and lifestyle space.
The limited-edition collection of footwear and accessories for women, men and children is a true fusion between the legacy of Christian Louboutin’s Savoir Faire and the epic storytelling that makes Marvel so emblematic. This collection is inspired by three Marvel entities:
- The Infinity Stones, which immediately caught Christian Louboutin’s attention, are embedded with strass into two unique heels for men and women.
- Namor, the first character ever appearing in a Marvel comic, is the inspiration for the reinvention of the Louboutin scales into an exclusive fish scale known as Spikes Namor. This reimagination to one of Christian Louboutin’s most iconic embellishment pays tribute to Namor’s underwater world.
- Moon Knight’s mysterious black and silver suit influences Christian Louboutin’s most audacious styles within the collection.
In addition, for the first time ever, Marvel has introduced global fashion designer, Christian Louboutin as a super hero. The collaboration originated based off of Christian Louboutin’s lifelong admiration for Marvel, his authentic love of Super Heroes, colourful creativity and the extraordinary and unique storytelling that can only be brought to life by a Marvel comic book.
The friendship between The Walt Disney Company and Louboutin was initially cemented more than 25 years ago when in 1997, the designer created several styles for the release of 101 Dalmatians film featuring his dear friend Glenn Close. Then in 2012, Christian Louboutin reinvented the iconic Cinderella shoe. The long-standing relationship continued with projects for Miss Piggy from The Muppets, Maleficent, and Star Wars, this year blooming into a full collection for the 100th-anniversary celebrations. This collaboration has led to a joint logo, a subtle blend of both the Marvel and Christian Louboutin signature reds.
The Infinity Stones play a vital role in this special-edition comic book – the story of a quest led by an Egyptian archaeologist Super Hero, based on the designer and his North African heritage. “I’ve always been fascinated by very visual stories, with lots of mysteries and action. As a child, I had a deep passion for Egyptian gods and pharaohs, but as a teenager, I found that expression through Marvel characters,” he said.
The comic book adventure takes place in Egypt and depicts the shoe and accessory collection itself, as well as numerous Marvel characters including Black Widow, Shuri, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers. Christian Louboutin’s fascination with Marvel is strong: “There is something about the Marvel mythology, its chronology and recurring characters going through epic adventures, dramas and intrigues, all spiced up with superpowers that really resonates with me!”
Becoming a Super Hero was breaking new ground for Christian Louboutin: “Who never dreamed of becoming a Super Hero, really? And I’m lucky enough to be turning into one with none other than Marvel! I really like the fact that they didn’t try to picture me as a strong and muscular character, but went deeper in the understanding of my universe. They went into the power of creativity and imagination: Someone who makes individuals dream and empowers them. When one manages to make people dream and inspire passion in them, it’s as much a superpower as it is an honour.”
