For the third consecutive year, KOMONO is pleased to continue its association with the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts’ fashion department. In order to create a pair of sunglasses related to the master students’ individual works, KOMONO collaborated with five of them. The outcome is a bold collection that supports the avant-garde perspective of today’s top designers.
Part of a new project, KOMONO NEXT, this capsule collection is a continuous experiment exploring the boundaries of fashion accessories and a platform for some of the world’s most creative talents.
Without further ado, feast your eyes on KOMONO’s latest collection: KOMONO x RAFAA:
KOMONO x Karolina Widecka
Karolina Widecka explores the duality between a fragile appearance and an extreme shape by putting forth a superstitious and symbolic capsule. The glasses’ upper bar, which is shaped like broken glass and was inspired by ex-votos and Mexican religious art, serves as a sign of protection for the wearer.
KOMONO x Kaya Gayoung
Semiotics and symbolism were sources of inspiration for Kaya Gayoung Lee. She was interested in the idea of love as a universal language and how verbal displays of affection could be represented by clothing and eyewear. Her work was greatly influenced by both the film “The Color of Pomegranates” and the photography of Viviane Sassen. She experimented with shadows and spiky, angular shapes resembling arrows for the eyewear.
KOMONO x Mohammed el Marnissi
Mohammed el Marnissi’s collection makes reference to an Arabian folktale about two troubled lovers who created a labyrinth to conceal their relationship. This is brought to life in glasses that have two layers, as if two frames were stacked on top of one another. The graphics on the glasses, which are based on Verner Panton paintings, have a colour scheme that is distinctly 1960s and reveal a love story in the making.
KOMONO x RAFAA is available at Vernakular Store, Time Zone Gallery Ampang, Time Zone IOI City Mall Putrajaya, Time Zone Sogo Kuala Lumpur, Time Zone Vivacity Megamall; and online at Lazada, Shopee, and Zalora. For more, visit www.thewatchlibrary.co or www.timezone.com.my.
