I once quarrelled with mom and we did not talk for few days. However during that period, every morning i woke up I still see the food I love well prepared on the dining table as usual. I was so depressed during the cold war. On the 4th day…, I decided to break the ice, said wanna bring her out for dinner. We went to Nando’s. My mom looked at the menu and ordered Nando Chicken Meals with “Extra Hot Peri-Peri”. Obviously she’s still showing her anger to me cause’ she don’t like spicy food. Then I just ordered the Nando Chicken Meals with “Lemon & Herb” though I usually order Hot Peri-Peri, knowing that I might need to exchange the plate with her later.
After the storm comes the calm, sweetest happenings was when I offered to exchange the plate with her. She suggested that instead we exchange, why not we share the both flavours. Wow, you couldn’t imagine how heavenly it tastes when 2 ‘extremes’ meet. We started to talk as usual, so warm and full of laughter. After the ‘heat’ comes the sweet, we summed up the scrumptious meal with the Chocolate Mud Pie with Ice-cream. I think that Nando’s is the best icebreaking place as it has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere
So now, whenever we walk into Nando’s, we do not need to look at the menu anymore. We will directly order our very own ‘extreme’ combo: Nando Chicken Meals with “Extra Hot Peri-Peri”, Nando Chicken Meals with “Lemon & Herb” and Chocolate Mud Pie with Ice-cream!

My BF and I would normally spend our Saturday afternoons at the malls – window-shopping, catching up on the latest movies followed by a meal afterwards. We always ended up eating at Nando’s since it is our all-time favorite eating place. I often teased BF that I think he loves his 1/4 chicken with two sidelines (Peri chips and coleslaw every time!) more than he loves me, but he would simply laugh it off. I say this because as soon as his favorite dish is put in front of him, he will attack it with gusto. Any attempt at having a conversation whilst he’s still devouring his meal is a complete failure. He loves his food so much he would not even let me steal a Peri chip off his plate!
Having known this Nando’s eating habit of his for so long, I have gotten used to it, although it did make me feel a bit frustrated at times. I can’t believe that I have to compete for his attention against a piece of chicken! One Saturday following my birthday, we had gone to our favorite Nando’s outlet at KLCC. We like coming here since the crowd is not too big during weekends, the service is brisk and the waiting staff is always pleasant. Once we were seated, one of the staff promptly came to take our order. However, BF told her that we needed a few more minutes. I found this odd but kept the thought to myself. When she left, BF immediately took out an envelope from his jacket, pushed it across to my side of the table and asked me to open it. I knew that it was my birthday card. What I didn’t expect was what he had written inside it.
It read: “To my one and only true love, Happy Birthday! I will never stop loving my Nando’s but I will always love you more!” That has got to be my best Nando’s experience!

Truth be told, my best Nando’s experience was the first time I actually stepped into a Nando outlet. I still remember clearly it was about 6 years ago, at the Nando’s outlet at Plaza OUG, Old Klang Road. Hubby (then my boyfriend) and I used to big fans of greasy, fried fast food. We often tucked into our favorite fried chickens every week without any thoughts whatsoever of the high cholesterol contents… that is until we decided to go for a general health screening together. The results were… sufficient to say… less than satisfying . The doctor was grim and told us firmly that it’s high time we start switching to “healthier eating habits”. What a bummer!
I remembered walking out of his clinic feeling downcasted and thinking “well, here goes my friend chicken indulgences!”.As faith would have it, the clinic was situated just right behind Plaza OUG and when hubby and I decided to take a look around; we passed by Nandos! Of course we had know Nandos’ existence for a long while now but never thought about trying it out as we had the misconception that the food’s definitely too boring and bland for our tastebuds.
We were pleasantly proven 100% WRONG! We ordered the ¼ chicken with 2 sidelines each, and were so impressed at first bite that we ordered seconds to share together. The meat was juicy and tender, and definitely super tasty minus all the unnecessary oil and fats we were used to. And the Peri-Peri sauce that goes with it? Heavenly. We were so enamored with our new discovery that we even ordered delicious smoothies to go with the meal and loved every sip!
BINGO! We found our new (yet much, much healthier) chicken indulgence and never looked back since. Hubby loves having his Nando Chicken Meals with Hot Peri-Peri whilst I love mine with Lemon & Herbs. Our first time at Nando’s was definitely our best Nando’s experience, ever!

One thing i’ll remember forever, was when the Peri Hot Chick invaded my office last year! Ohh awesome experience. The staff from USJ Taipan were properly dressed in Nando’s uniform and the Hot Chick (mascot) itself were there! Imagine how my boss and colleague react? Haha. Its a promotions for their latest branch, and so the briefing was really useful as we did not know much about the delicious secret recipes for the Peri-peri Chicken, and the healthy nutritions. AND we were treated with boxes of those Peri-peri Chiken (all varieties), with the full range of Nando’s dip sauces for our pantry! It was wicked cool. I was not the only one being very happy that day for sure. They sure know how to make our tummy full and happy, but also make their customer surprised with memorable moments! I will never forget that !

Back when I was younger, perhaps early 2000′s, there was only one Nando’s in the KL area that I remember. This was the Bangsar branch. Every other weekend, my family would make it a spectacle to go tho this branch and order take out of the chicken wings. thats it. we did not need any 1/4 chicken meals, peri burgers and all that. just the simple, delicious marinated wings. since then I’ve been (kinda) addicted to the peri sauce. and the Bangsar Nando’s takeouts still burns vividly in my memory.
