How do you make fashion affordable while saving the planet at the same time? Why, you go secondhand of course! Secondhand may sound too harsh a word so the trend these days is to call items which you no longer need, pre-loved. Introducing Friendly Fashion, Malaysia’s first online community closet where Malaysians can sell, swap or even give away their clothes for a fashionable cause. The site features a simple and easy to use form to fill up whenever you have a new item for sale or swap compared to other sites.
The brains (and beauties!) behind the site are two sisters Nadzirah and Diyana Hashim who are passionate about fashion as they are about life. Together, they created an interactive site where you the shopper can fill it up with stylish clothing, gorgeous shoes and pretty accessories which you no longer need. Read on to find out more about Friendly Fashion from the girls themselves!
When was Friendly Fashion launched and how many members do you have to date?
What makes your website different from other websites with similar concepts?
FF: This platform is not just about making space for new clothes in your closet, it’s also about showcasing your personal style to the fashion community. Members are allowed to comment and ‘like’ an item they see and even interact in the forum about the latest trends in fashion. Furthermore, we’re very keen on promoting the idea of meaningful consumption. It’s a concept which promotes the idea that we’re conscious consumers who believe that waste can be reduced.
What kind of items can we expect on Friendly Fashion?
FF: So far we’ve got members with high end items like Coach and high street brands like Topshop and H&M. Overall, we’d love to see Malaysians showcase their personal style. And in a country with various cultural background and sense of style, friendlyfashion.my has built a photo collage of beautiful clothing, shoes and accessories. And that’s exactly what we’d love to see on our website
Do members need to pay to join Friendly Fashion?
FF: Ours doesn’t cost anything to join in on the fun. Membership is absolutely free and we’re not taking any cut from their sales.
How many members do you target to hit? Why the forum?
Do the both of you plan to organize real life swap parties or flea markets in the future?
FF: Yes, that’s definitely in our plans in the near future. We’ve already seen members planning tiny meet ups in our forum so we’re excited to plan an official one soon!
Finally, tell us 5 of your favourite fashion brands and 5 places where you both like to shop!
FF: Since we share our clothes it’s pretty safe to say we love shopping from international brands like H&M, Forever 21, ZARA, Cotton On as well as local brands like Dressing Paula. And on top of that we really love shopping at little local boutiques and getting our clothes made by fashion designers from Malaysia.
There you have it girls, Friendly Fashion is a fantastic avenue for you to clear your wardrobe space while earning some moolah for your next shopping trip. Not only that, you can hit the forums and find out the latest steals and styles in town.
