Dato’ Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Malaysia’s internationally-recognized songbird, has conquered the world’s largest stages throughout her three-decade career. She has not only become our most celebrated singer, but also a business magnate, taking on the beauty and fashion industries by storm. Her mega-star power has propelled her to venture into various illustrious endeavours – among them, becoming the face of Swarovski’s Raya 2022 campaign.
After first being gifted Swarovski items by an anonymous fan, the legendary artiste fell in love with the brand, which is now a staple in her jewellery collection. She is now perpetually fully-decked in Swarovski’s most beautiful pieces, ranging from necklaces to bracelets, including from its latest Eid collection. The brand’s premium Hari Raya jewellery line features magnificent designs of extremely elegant bangles, rings, and necklaces in the luscious colour of green, accented with white, yellow, and rose metallics.
Dato’ Seri Siti Nurhaliza spoke with Lipstiq about how the collaboration with Swarovski came about; the resplendent Eid collection; and some of her upcoming projects:
How did this collaboration with Swarovski come into being?
It all started when I was made an offer by Swarovski, and I felt that Swarovski is special in the sense that it is a brand which emphasises fearless self-expression and celebrates individuality; and it also spreads the message of inclusivity. I also feel that accessories from Swarovski are ideal gifts to mark this wonderful occasion, or to strengthen familial bonds, especially among those who we have yet to connect with after being separated for so long. And as many might know, I have been a loyal fan of the brand for quite some time, hence, when I was offered the role of being their official Face of Raya, I did not have to think long and hard, and I felt that this was the best collaboration for me.
Do you remember the first time you came across Swarovski pieces?
I recall purchasing Swarovski accessories for the first time more than 5 years ago. But prior to that, when I first became an artiste, I was gifted Swarovski accessories by a fan, which included the iconic Crystal Swan and some rings. The very first accessories were a collection of rings from Swarovski which I really liked.
What’s your favourite piece from Swarovski’s latest collection?
Among the items that I really like are rings like the Lucent Cocktail ring, because of its vibrant colour. It’s also quite visible and tends to stand out as soon as I put it on. On a quieter day, I may colour-match it with my outfit for a monotone look – though the ring is still impossible to miss – but when I feel like getting loud, I’ll pile them on for a vibrant, maximalist clash of colour.
They say that jewelry is the best kind of family heirloom. Do you have a piece that you inherited from your mother or grandmother? What’s the story behind it?
Yes, I do have a few pieces from the family that I inherited from my mother. It was quite common for folks in the olden days to keep their jewelry, and pass it on to the next generation, so I do have a few pieces that were passed on by my mother. As mothers, it’s only natural for us to want our daughters to inherit some of our jewelry pieces and accessories – hence for Aafiyah, she certainly has quite the collection which I intend to pass on to her.
Has your daughter Aafiyah shown any interest in your jewellery?
She has! She is used to watching me get prepared before attending any event, and I’ll always put on accessories like rings, necklaces and bracelets. She would also ask for the same pieces that I choose to put on. Personally, I have reserved quite a few items which I used to wear during my younger days, which I treasure, and I’ve also kept some pieces gifted by my husband for her to wear as she gets older.
Can you share with us your upcoming projects – maybe a new album on the horizon?
There is a new album underway, but it will take some time before it is released, as I want to ensure that we have good quality and amazing songs – so stay tuned. I’ll be making an official announcement on my new album once its finalised, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.
