Legendary Italian fashion house Valentino is proving that it has its eyes locked on the bigger picture by introducing a new line of luxury eyewear.
In July 2022, Maison Valentino introduced its first capsule collection, ushering in a new era for its Valentino Eyewear line. Dedicated to talent, knowledge and quality, Valentino and the Switzerland-based Akoni Group agreed into a new, exclusive agreement in December 2021 for the design, manufacture, and global distribution of high-end eyewear.
The first collection will feature three new exclusive styles that will embody the Valentino Couture approach by utilising the finest materials, and a combination of time-honoured and cutting-edge production techniques. Three models are named after the numbers of the historical Valentino headquarters – an homage to the Maison: Paris Place Vendome (VIII), Milan Turati (XVI), and finally, Rome Mignanelli (XXII), where the heart of creativity with Pierpaolo Piccioli is.
The Valentino eyewear collection conveys the values of the Maison and the mastery of couture. Couture as a field where the processes remain traditional and unique, but at the same time gives the possibility for experimentation. The new eyewear generation is 100% produced in the finest workshop in Japan, utilising the highest quality materials and techniques. Artisans dedicate decades of their lives to mastering their crafts and passing their knowledge through generations.
First and Second Launch
This high-end, luxurious capsule collection consists of three different sunglasses shapes in ten colourways. Six additional varieties will be included in the second launch, which will appear in October 2022. Maison’s distinctive features, including its well-known stud and V-Logo Signature as well as its colour scheme, subtly but unmistakably convey the brand’s legacy in Haute Couture.
The New Collection
Valentino VIII
The Valentino VIII is a cat-eye form that combines feminine titanium and acetate with a uniquely modern flare for timeless beauty, lightweight comfort, and lasting quality. It has intricately crafted design features like the signature Valentino 3D rockstuds on the bridge’s top and front, revolutionary twisted temples, extruded stud temple tips, and bespoke hinges. The design is offered in classic Valentino colour schemes like black, clear brown, and crystal bordeaux. The pinnacle for the elegant yet tough modern femme fatale is VIII.
Valentino XVI
The Valentino XVI sunglasses have a large aviator form that is reminiscent of the 1980s and low base curve retro lenses. The famous 3D Valentino rockstuds on the bridge, brow bar, temples, and temple tips are crafted entirely of Japanese titanium, making this model the pinnacle of aviators. The multi-colour gradient sun lenses are projected beyond the eye rim thanks to cutting-edge design and construction techniques, which also highlights the complimentary palette of chic Valentino legacy colour combinations.
Valentino XXII
Valentino XXII, is the address of the historical headquarters of the Maison where Pierpaolo Piccioli, with the ateliers and his creative studio, are based. The famous model was developed in honour of the Valentino Creative Director and was influenced by his unique physique. Easy to wear, it has a contemporary take on the iconic 1960s Wellington shape made famous by Italian Golden Era cinema. For a classic yet vintage aesthetic, it comes in solid black, brown tortoise, and mid-honey tortoise. The design has a front that is 8mm thick, is gracefully sculpted to promote wearability, and is adorned with distinguishable details like the renowned 3D Valentino rockstuds on the front, temples, temple tips, five-barrel hinges, and a special wire core.
The Valentino x Akoni eyewear collection is now available at selected Valentino boutiques, Valentino.com and exclusive eyewear retailers.
