When celebrating a milestone anniversary, many luxury timepiece brands simply launch a commemorative watch with a few minor design modifications. Not so for Swiss timepiece master, Breitling, though.
Firstly, the brand’s sole store in Malaysia, which debuted in 2013, underwent a major refurbishment to better showcase the signature industrial loft aesthetic of the company. The 86 square metres of retail space, which is housed in the opulent Pavilion mall in Bukit Bintang, is intended to combine the brand’s lengthy and significant history with a casual and inclusive shopping experience.
The distinctive, modern-retro room is created by combining historic accents with streamlined contemporary design. It evokes the era when Breitling produced some of the most coveted tool watches ever manufactured and sets the tone for the company’s dedication to design excellence. One of the most remarkable details of Breitling’s compelling industrial loft concept is the stunning display of the Triumph Speed Twin bike in Matt Storm Grey against a stunning graffiti wall specially curated by local artist, Escapeva.
Breitling Malaysia’s 70th Anniversary
Secondly, Breitling threw a bash to celebrate its renowned Navitimer chronograph, which also marks its 70th anniversary. Outside of Malaysia, the important occasion was marked in March with a never-before in-flight reveal of the new 2022 Navitimer between Zurich and Geneva, as part of its #FORTHEJOURNEY campaign. The Navitimer, an ingenious gadget that could be worn on the wrist to calculate all necessary flight computations such as average speed, distance travelled, and fuel consumption, was first created as a flight tool in 1952.
Recently, the year-long celebration reached Malaysia – specifically, Pavilion KL – where a pop-up store allowed visitors to take a journey through the Navitimer’s historical development, with special museum items and the newest Navitimer line from 2022.
Models in various aviation-inspired attire paraded down the mall’s famous Spanish Steps towards the Breitling pop-up to kick off the evening. Each wore a 2022 Navitimer on their wrists.
“It is great to be back here in Malaysia, presenting the new Navitimer and celebrating this grand milestone with our friends who have been a part of this incredible journey”- Mr. Alvin Soon, President of Breitling Asia.
As they explored the pop-up and participated in the evening’s activities, guests were treated to a surprise performance by Malaysian sweetheart Atilia Haron, who had the crowd dancing to songs from the 1950s to the present day’s hottest pop favourites. Guests were thoroughly entertained and left with many treasured souvenirs, including a customized, stamped tote bag; their portraits made by creative craftsmen; and even a retro polaroid photo.
Two unique drinks, 1952 and the Navitimer, which were created in collaboration with single malt whiskey partner Glenrothes, were inspired by the fabled watch. Every visitor enjoyed a fantastic evening with Breitling, thanks to the fantastic drinks and music played by DJ Victor.
The new Navitimer line is accessible for viewing and purchase at the Breitling store at Level 2 of Pavilion KL.
