Award-winning Malaysian singer Aina Abdul performed at the Istana Budaya last weekend for her A Night With Aina Abdul 2.0 concert. It didn’t come as a shock to learn that her concert was a blockbuster success, with tickets to the show selling out in minutes. This was most likely owing to her outstanding singing talent, which many didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to witness firsthand.
Aside from her wonderful voice, the clothes she dons for her performances should not be ignored – especially since they are tough to miss. The “Sepi” singer is not afraid to experiment with her wardrobe, as she frequently wears the most extravagant outfits on stage. While some applaud her and her team’s innovation in blending her clothing into her songs, others are largely perplexed and surprised by her fashion sense.
Let’s take a look at some of the most extravagant dresses Aina Abdul has worn during her performances in recent years.
34th Anugerah Juara Lagu
Aside from her outstanding voice, which has made her one of the most successful singers in the country, one of the reasons her iconic performance at the 34th annual Anugerah Juara Lagu was so remarkable was that she donned a large, white outfit, out of which fake blood suddenly started to spill. To say that she was the talk of the town on Twitter is an understatement.
Through the bespoke gown designed by Tengku Syahmi, the singer aimed to convey her message in her song “Sumpah” – of the pain that one goes through when they lose someone they love the most. While the performance itself was stunning, the stunt she pulled didn’t necessarily sit well with the audience.
35th Anugerah Juara Lagu
Despite being second for her song “Semalam” during the 35th annual of AJL, Aina Abdul certainly won our hearts! For her outstanding and memorable performance, the singer definitely went big by donning all things ruffle and pleated, from head-to-toe. In collaboration with the best of Malaysian designers, a vision became a complete reality for this garment, that tells the tale of her award-winning song beautifully.
The dress itself was awash with so many implicit meanings that reflect her song “Semalam” – from the patterns of the fallen withered leaves, to the silhouette of her garment. Many praised Aina Abdul’s mesmerizing performance.

34th Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian
During the 34th Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian red carpet, Aina Abdul made sure that the spotlight was on her, because the outfit she wore was a definite scene-stealer. Donning a bespoke Behati couture creation, the singer rocked the red carpet in all-black, from the top of her head to the tip of her toes. However, what made the audience completely in awe of her dress was the giant rose-shaped headpiece that completely framed her entire face.
It was definitely considered to be the most “avant-garde” gown Aina Abdul has worn so far, but it certainly garnered a mixed reaction from netizens (but of course, that’s not a surprise for her). Luckily, the outfit she wore during her performance of both “Semalam” & “Sumpah” was much less constricting, movement-wise, as opposed to her red carpet dress.
36th Separuh Akhir Muzik Muzik
Being just inches away from becoming a finalist for the 36th annual AJL, the singer made it her mission to make a show-stopping performance of “Nafas Cinta” – and that included her garment. Designed by Melinda Looi, a beloved fashion designer, her dress definitely made a commotion aside from her singing.
Ruffles upon ruffles with five different colours layered on top of one another, it was definitely the most “out there” ensemble as compared to the other performers’. Truly a garment that we have never seen before, especially with its unique silhouette – but of course, it safe to assume that only Aina Abdul could pull of such a garment.

36th Anugerah Juara Lagu
It’s no longer shocking to see Aina Abdul take her fashion to the extreme, especially when she has the fashion designer extraordinaire to help her achieve her visions, including for her performance at the 36th annual AJL. While there were many highlights that night, the one that generated the most buzz was certainly Aina Abdul’s dress.
Decked with flowers all over her, this intricate gown was made by Melinda Looi, using unconventional materials such as flowers, to make her fantasy become a reality. Some argued that the dress certainly distracted from her performance, while others praised her for being able to perform in such an outfit. Regardless of what your view on the dress is, you have to admit that Aina Abdul was the beautiful flower surrounded by her own garden.

Is there such a thing as too much gold? Not in Aina Abdul’s book, of course. For her next performance, the “Nafsu Cinta” singer dazzled on stage in a full, head-to-toe gold glamour look, courtesy of Tengku Syahmi and Abu Shaef Hamza. The “Sepi” singer shone brightly and performed her absolute best, which earned her a win and the title of the 36th AJL’s Best Vocal Performance! We guess gold does bring good luck!

A Night With Aina Abdul 2.0
Last weekend was her “A Night With Aina Abdul 2.0” concert, thus it’s only natural that she went EXTRA with her garments – but we assume she forgot to mention “hairy” as well? On the first night of her concert, the singer entered the stage decked with full hair that swayed elegantly as she performed her song. Many netizens quickly questioned whether the hair she wore was real.
Multi-award winning Melinda Looi posted on her Instagram about the labour she undertook when making the dress, which included tonnes – and we mean TONNES – of hair. From constructing to stitching-in the hair, the dress very gradually came to life, and Aina Abdul did look fierce donning it.
Whether you hate her fashion or not, Aina Abdul is considered one of the most fashion-forward celebrities in our country. That doesn’t even take into account how much of an outstanding singer she is. Truly a talented and stylish icon of our generation – and we cannot wait to see what she has in store for us for her future performances!
