All you K-pop fans probably know this spot.
One of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia and home to a number of attractions, the 1 Utama retail complex is well known among residents of the Klang Valley. Along with places to shop, there are also entertainment venues including cineplexes, karaoke bars and many others. But wait, there’s more!
Say hello to Rollerwa! Originally from Korea, this roller skating rink is the first of its kind in Malaysia. Rollerwa has been offering a wonderful roller skating experience since its opening on December 23, 2021. And today, this spot is a must-visit for people of all ages.
It is usually packed during the weekends, but you can still head there provided you arrive before 10.30am. There are no reservation slots and only walk-in entry is available. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by friendly staff who will then assist you in purchasing the tickets via a machine. I feel it is quite convenient compared to a person-fronted counter. There are three ticket machines, so the process would be rather fast. For safety measures, the staff will explain the dos and don’ts before you enter, just so you have a safe skating experience.

After the purchase, you will be given a wristband that must be worn at all times while you’re in there. If you’re a skater, you will receive RM3 off if you bring your own skates. If you don’t own skating shoes, no worries, the package is inclusive of them, safety gear and entry pass. For those who do not wish to skate, but would love to check the place out, you can enter for a small fee of RM12.
You get to choose from black, pink or white rollerskates and the wheels have lights! I don’t know about you, but it was kinda exciting for me. If you bring along your bags and personal belongings, you can rent their locker for only RM10.
Basically, the entire area is dedicated to skaters. There is plenty of room to go around the rink because the skating area is around 17,000 square feet. For beginners, there are railings by the sides to hold onto. Also, they offer skate aid at RM20 per hour, which is only available on weekdays from 10am to 5pm.
I really love the atmosphere there. Everyone is just skating their hearts’ out. Although, since you’re just circling the same area, skaters don’t really mind, as long as they can skate and upgrade their skills.
To make it more than just a skating session, there’s K-pop music and other hits playing during the 2-hour session. Additionally, there are disco lights everywhere, which gives skaters an old-school vibe.
Of course, places such as Rollerwa must be Instagrammable (or else, how do they become famous!?) Right at the back of the skating area, there are a few gram-worthy spots. I really like how they decorated the place with colourful lights. It felt a bit dark, but with those lights, you still get that fun vibe. Right before you get to the Instagrammable spots, you have to pass through a mirror-path.
If you’re tired or want to rest for a bit, there are a few seating areas at the centre of the skating area, and at the sides as well. There’s also a cafe called Disco Cafe, where you can chill with some drinks and snacks.
It was really a fun-filled evening, although I was falling here and there as I skated. You might think 2 hours isn’t enough, but trust me, it was more than enough, especially if you’re a beginner. I would definitely head back to this place again.
What are you waiting for, guys? Head over to Rollerwa 1 Utama for a fun filled weekend with your friends and family.
