From bold liners to natural hues, Cannes 2022 showcased a wide range of innovative looks that’ll inspire you!
After a two-year hiatus due to Covid 19-related restrictions, the Cannes Film Festival returned in 2022 with a bang. The prestigious event, now in its 75th year, attracts the world’s top stars to the French Riviera.
Stars wore spectacular ensembles to commemorate the occasion. Here are 7 beauty trends from the 2022 Cannes Film Festival’s Red Carpet, ranging from make-up to hairstyles.
1. Eyes encrusted with gems
Since the release of HBO’s Euphoria in 2019, the world has been captivated with experimental make-up. The passion has only grown since the show’s blockbuster second season premiered, with strong eyeliner, bejewelled eyes, and glittering make-up styles becoming the norm among Gen Zs. At Cannes, veteran actress Andie Macdowell demonstrated that the trend is not just for the younger generation, but is here to stay, as she walked the red carpet with green gems beneath her eyes, which matched her magnificent outfit in the same colour.
2. Stylish hairclips
As Viola Davis introduced the princesscore style, a near cousin of cottagecore and balletcore, extra-large claw clips will be taking a back seat. She wore a canary yellow Alexander McQueen gown on the Cannes red carpet, which was reminiscent of Princess Belle’s in Beauty and the Beast. Her exquisite orange flower hairpin gives the finishing touch to the ensemble.

Elle Fanning, the star in Maleficent, has embraced this simple and free-flow hairstyle. She accessorized her blonde curls with a diamond-encrusted bow made from the same material as her dress.
3. Liner with strong graphics
Let’s ditch the thin liners and go for a bold look! Deepika Padukone flaunts her quirky style, which includes a dramatic black graphic liner. Deepika became a genuine Indian Goddess with her delicate bronzed make-up and mauve eyes. For her final Cannes red carpet look, the Indian actress wore her hair in a sleek low bun. In the French Riviera, the overall dazzle was ideal for spring.
4. Chic Parisian
For the premiere of her forthcoming historical drama, Armageddon Time, Anne Hathaway looked easy in her fresh Florrie White make-up. She was dressed in a two-piece by Giorgio Armani that included a small bralette-style top and a straight, form-fitting skirt with a back slit. White sequins were used to provide a reflective appearance on both. The natural glam of the American actress was pulled together by Adir Abergel’s effortless waves and the Bulgari “Mediterranean Reverie”, a statement sapphire stone necklace. For accessories, she went with a satin shawl wrapped around her arms in a knot.

Soo Joo Park, a model and DJ, walked the red carpet in a revealing white gown with cutouts. Nensi Dojaka created Park’s gown, which had a thigh-high slit, a short train, and cuts across the torso and chest. The delicate white cloth was partially see-through and transparent. She accessorised her look with Chopard jewellery and white pumps.
5. Sunset shades
At the Cannes Film Festival, sun-kissed colours were also one of the most popular beauty trends. On the eyes, Julianne Moore and Jasmine Tookes chose warm gold, coppery red, and maroon colours that harmonised wonderfully to resemble the sunset. As a finishing touch, Tookes applied a smidgeon of gold to the inner corner of the eyes. Her Tony Ward Couture gown was all bright and yellow, which complimented her make up all the more.
Julianne Moore‘s soft beauty look included burnt orange smokey eye make-up that matched her famous hair colour perfectly.
6. Big bows

Classic yet stunning. The classic Chanel looks worn by Margaret Qualley at the Cannes Film Festival will be one of the most popular trends in the near future. And her looks were quickly boosted with only a pair of enormous bows on a simple ponytail or bun. Margaret wore a breathtaking full look by the Parisian maison. She accessorized her smoky grey organza petticoat dress with ruffles, Signature Ultime drop earrings in 18K white gold and diamonds, and classic black pumps. As for her hair, it was left curly and natural, tied in a loose ponytail and accessorized with a giant black organza ribbon to keep it in place.
7. Jagged cat eye
In a world where new eyeliner styles inspired by foxes, bat wings, and puppies are continually going viral, celebs are sticking to the classic cat eye, reinventing it with their own personal twists. Coco Rocha, for example, finishes her cat eye with straight, raised brows to enhance her prominent cheekbones.

As for Bella Hadid, her eyes were adorned with a jagged black cat eye to complement her stunning black evening gown inspired by a Gianni Versace design from 1987.
