If there’s one YouTube star who’s far from girly yet sizzling hot we dare say, it’s got to be Australia’s Natalie Tran also known as communitychannel on the world’s most famous video hosting website. Natalie who originates from Sydney began creating her videos highlighting true to life neurotic tendencies which most of us actually have, in the comforts of her parent’s home back in 2005.
Her three most viewed videos to date are “How to Fake a Six Pack”, “The Ultrasound” and “Bending at the Knees for Love” acheiving between 15 million to 34 million views per video! That’s crazy considering those numbers are usually reserved for cat videos plus we reckon her newer videos crack us up so much more.
Armed with a a Digital Media degree from the University of New South Wales, Tran has over a million subscribers with over 400 million views and even though Tran occasionally appears in front of the camera in a low cut top, what really gets the viewers is her quirky sense of humor and video technique where she plays multiple characters in her comedic skits about everyday life. Many of the themes are often observation and self deprecating such as getting a GPS, how to deal with couples making out around you, getting free stuff, applying for usernames and narcissism.
It’s easy to find a beautiful girl on the web but to find one with a sense of humour like Natalie’s is incredibly rare. According to Natalie in an interview with SMH.com.au, she said that the skits were all based on things that happened in her day, “just a little bit exaggerated for comedy purposes”.
“They’re not hugely deep and meaningful videos; they’re just short snippets that are meant to be a little bit of fun in somebody’s lunch break … the world wouldn’t be a worse place without them,” she said.
LONELY PLANET COLLABORATION
In 2010, Lonely Planet collaborated with Natalie and sent her to some of the world’s most exotic locations such as Buenos Aires, Dubai, Mexico, New York, Singapore, Las Vegas, Jordan and even the Carribean resulting in these entertaining 3 minute compact travel videos.
Natalie usually ends her videos with her signature “Porno Music/Comment Time” segment, where she posts and responds to comments on her previous videos, over a melody stereotypically used in pornographic films. In the past year or so, Natalie has slowed down in making videos stating that she now “has a life” but has recently made a comeback with a few videos on her Youtube Channel in the past month. If you haven’t had her in your life, we urge you to start right now. Warning: She can be addictive.
