Looking for healthier dining options, but can’t seem to get enough of Malaysia’s delicacies? Then head to TRACE Restaurant and Bar at Element Kuala Lumpur, not just for the food, but for a splendid view to accompany your meal. And starting today, TRACE offers the Flavours at 40 Lunch and Dinner Buffet, a spread inspired by the restaurant’s venue – level 40 – and the panoramic view.
A collaboration with Boom Grow, the buffet includes a variety of healthy cuisine options created for wellness-conscious customers. Diners will be able to keep their healthy lifestyles while staying at the hotel without having to give up their favourite Malaysian dishes. Dining here was a great experience for Lipstiq! The ambience was great, there’s also a beautiful view (especially at night) and there was a wide variety of food and desserts!
Honestly, I was slightly overwhelmed because I was spoilt for choice. There were both Western and Asian delights, which I think is great, because this allows guests to enjoy the best of both worlds. Diners can look forward to Chinese Style Double Boiled Soup with Herb and Fungus, Chicken Salad, Slow Roasted Herbed Mutton, Braised Mock Chicken with Mushroom, Mussel cooked in Spicy Coconut Gravy with Johor Pineapples, Stir Fried Thai Basil Beef, Wok Fried Mixed Vegetables, homemade soup and broths.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the live-pasta station, which serves handmade tomato pasta sauce obtained locally in the Cameron Highlands. I really enjoyed the pasta. It was perfectly cooked, served hot and there were two choices: Carbonara and Tomato. Another great thing about this pasta station is that guests can choose their own condiments, sauces, and additional ingredients – a la-minute cooking to avoid wastage.
There were other amazing delicacies, such as Char Kway Teow, TRACE Signature Pizza, Curry Laksa, Fruit Rojak, and various Grilled Western and Asian treats which were all so delicious. Since I wasn’t really into Asian dishes that day, I tried more Western food. There were two choices of pizza: Beef Pepperoni and Vege Pizza; and both tasted so good, especially when enjoyed while warm. Next up, I tried Cajun Rosemary Lamb from the grill station. I like the fact that they were preparing the meat fresh and you could literally watch the chef grilling. That aromatic smell from the grill is just about enough to make anyone go hungry. Also, the meat was really juicy and tender, which made my meal enjoyable.
If you’re into healthy eating or are on a diet (definitely not me!), you can try their DIY Vegetarian Poke Bowl. There are tonnes of organic mix garden salads to choose from. Customize your own salad and enjoy it the way you like. All the vegetables and garnish were super-fresh. So you’ll definitely enjoy your salad! Also, there’s a fresh seafood station with various seafood delicacies nearby. Didn’t really try them, but they looked pretty yummy.
For dessert, I had their Coconut Jelly, Red Velvet and Pahang Chocolate Banana Cake, which were my favourites from all the desserts they offered. The Coconut Jelly was served in a tiny glass topped with whipped cream and coconut shaving. It wasn’t too sweet and it was served chilled, so it was a good way to compliment a heavy meal. Between the two cakes I had, the Pahang Chocolate Banana Cake really exceeded my expectations. Banana and chocolate aren’t really my choice of flavours, but to my surprise, this cake was pretty good and the flavour was so balanced. Another choice of dessert is the famous ABC. With a variety of toppings, you can customize your shaved ice dessert according to your liking.
To compliment your meals, choose from cold, fresh juices, or hot drinks. You can also order colouful choices of kuih-muih in bite sizes. Overall, dining at TRACE was really worthwhile and I went home with a happy tummy.
Sustainable Menu
On a side note: diners can choose from an appetizer, two main courses, one soup, and one dessert on the sustainable menu. You can start with the Element Green Salad, a Cameron Highlands adaptation of the Greek Salad made with locally-grown organic vegetables and herbs, including Pegaga and Ulam Raja. The salad, which comes with a handmade strawberry dressing, is a perfect blend of sweet and salty flavours. Locally-grown roasted pumpkin soup with herb oil and coconut milk drizzle is also available.
For mains, there are two variations. For protein-centric diners, there’s Charcoal Herb Crusted Free Range Chicken with Green Peas Puree, Caramalized Carrot Sticks and Buttered Peas served with Sarawak Black Pepper sauce. Diners can also have the Vegetarian Mee Mamak, an all-vegetarian variation of the local mee goreng mamak.
To finish off, there’s the Pahang Banana Chocolate Cake. Served with local coconut flavoured ice cream and Cameron Highland strawberries, this will be a pleasant surprise for the sweet-toothed.
