1. Treating eye bags
Nobody likes eyebags – but getting rid of them ain’t easy. Apart from using cosmetics or face packs to cure eyebags, one tool right from your kitchen is just about enough to do the trick. Place two metal spoons in the freezer overnight, then place the backs of the cold spoons beneath your eyes as close to the inner corners as possible, in the morning. Apply a light pressure and slowly glide the spoons towards the corner of your under eye. The cold spoons soothe puffiness, whereas the gliding motion is more of a mild massage for your undereye.
2. The perfect winged liner
Perfectly winged eyes are a labour of love that necessitate patience and talent. Learning how to do winged eyeliner should be at the top of your must-do list if you’re a newbie. Getting the perfect winged liner is sometimes so hard. You’ll get it right on one side but on the other side, its nearly impossible. Instead of whining about your imperfect winged liner, head to your kitchen and pick up a spoon to get the perfect winged eyeliner you always desired.
Draw a straight line with the handle of a spoon against the outer corner of your eye. Then, with the rounded outer edge of the spoon caressing your eyelid, make a flawlessly curled, winged tip. To finish the look, draw a line across your lash line after you’ve completed your outline.
3. Applying mascara
This is a hack that I can definitely rely on. My lashes are unmistakably long and thick. Getting mascara on my top lashes is a breeze. What about the lower half? It always gets smeared. So, how do I avoid stains? With a spoon of course!
Place a spoon beneath your eye with the curve facing out, and then apply mascara to your lower lashes as usual. The residue will end up on the back of the utensil rather than on your skin this way. If you set the spoon on top of your upper eyelid while applying mascara to your upper lashes, it will also work.
4. Fix your eyeshadow
Whether you’re a makeup newbie or a pro, you’ve probably experienced this one makeup heartbreak: shattered makeup. One of the worst emotions for makeup aficionados is dropping their eyeshadow palette or opening their makeup bag to find their favourite blush broken to bits and pieces. While the only solution to this is to throw it away and buy a new palette, we’ve got good news!
If your eyeshadow breaks, gather the broken pieces into the container and add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the crushed product. Use the back of a clean spoon to press the pieces back together. Allow it to dry before using as usual. You can use the same method for your blush or any other compressed powder products.
5. Perfectly curled lashes
It’s almost time to leave the house and you can’t fight the freakin’ curler – and leaving the house without curled lashes is not an option. For this crisis situation, one tool that would save the day is a spoon. Not only will it save you time, but it will definitely make your lashes look like da bomb.
With the back of the spoon on your eyelid, place the curved edge just over your top lashes. Lightly push your lashes against the edge with your finger to simulate the clamp of an eyelash curler. Continue pressing while moving the spoon’s edge out along the lashes. For better effect, heat the spoon with a blow dryer first for a more dramatic curl – but be mindful not to burn your eye.
6. No more nail polish stain
I always get stains on my fingers when applying nail polish. No matter how focused I seem, I just can’t avoid staining my fingers. So what options do I have right at home? By holding a spoon’s tip underneath my nail, I can keep the polish from getting on my skin around my nails. Take a plastic spoon (or a metal one if you want), and place the tip below your nails while painting. And there you have it, beautiful nails with stain-free fingers.
7. Cure hickey/bruises
The harsh reality about hickeys is this: There’s no DIY trick or product that will make your bruise fade overnight. The best thing you can do for a hickey or bruise is to let it be and let it heal on its own. It’s not pleasant to hear, but that’s the truth. Even so, there are a few tactics that can make the healing process a little less painful, one of which includes the use of a spoon.
Put a spoon in the freezer and brush the back of it against a new bruise or hickey to help it diminish by slowing the flow of blood to the area.
