Malaysians are known for their culinary prowess. We often brag about the variety of our food, which reflects our diverse cultures and heritage – a mash-up of ingredients, flavours, and influences inspired by our colourful past. It becomes much more exciting when cookery shows with famous chefs and celebrities are added to the mix. There is only one word to describe what’s coming soon: CHAOS!
Star Vs Food Malaysia, a new cooking reality show from Astro and Discovery Networks, will launch on PRIMEtime (Ch 704) on April 16 with a star-studded lineup of Malaysian celebrities paired with well-known chefs. The localized food reality show is based on the original Discovery model ‘Star Vs Food,’ which was a hit in India during its first season.
Astro’s Vice President of International Business, Sharmin Parameswaran, expressed her excitement about continuing their co-production with Discovery to bring Star Vs Food Malaysia. They are happy to partner with more local talents and production companies, like Creative Stew, as they continue to invest in and extend their slate of localized formats relevant to audiences, and bolstering their position as the top local entertainment destination. Following the success of their previous co-productions with Discovery for local gardening show Green Crashers and local food review series BEST.EVER., which received positive feedback and a large audience, they are hoping that customers will enjoy the exchange of talent, humor, and teamwork between chefs and celebrities in Star Vs Food Malaysia.
Discovery is happy to extend its cooperation to Astro with the introduction of three new series that highlight local storytelling, innovation, and talent, according to Vikram Channa, Vice President, Head of Content and Products, South East Asia, Discovery. Discovery’s dedication to offering more locally relevant content to audiences is reflected in these original formats, which represent both their famous reputation for outstanding entertainment and their commitment to bringing more locally relevant content to audiences.
This 10-episode series has a unique cooking show concept in which celebrities experiment with and learn recipes from chefs, as well as the necessary food preparation, in a fun and engaging way. Alif Satar and Datuk Aznil Haji Nawawi, Bront Palarae and Dato’ Chef Ismail, Sherry Alhadad and Chef Adu Amran, Alicia Amin and Chef Florence Tan, Che Puan Juliana Evans and Chef Najib Hamid, Hisyam Hamid and Dato’ Chef Fazley Yaakob, Datin Lisa Surihani and Chef Melba Nunis, Daiyan Trisha and Chef Fadzly Che Omar; Thanuja Ananthan and Chef Yogi; and Joanne Kam and Chef Nazri Jameson.
In Malaysia’s Star Vs Food, mayhem reigns in the kitchen as celebrities attempt to prepare delectable meals and develop their skills. “The experience of preparing Tempoyak and Gulai Daun Pucuk Paku was incomparable since I was on the knife’s edge this time unlike enjoying my meal in the restaurant,” Bront Palarae said in a statement about the event. “I was worried, but Chef Ismail’s enthusiasm inspired me and helped me gain confidence. You can see in the promo video that I was struggling to physically peel the coconut husk in order to obtain grated coconut for dishes, and the experience was invaluable”.
