Anyone and everyone who has ever lived in Malaysia will tell you that one of their favourite aspects of this country is the food. I mean, what’s not to like about it? There’s a wide range of cuisines, the rich flavours, the countless dining options, and the fact that it is always available (even past midnight).
So, what if we told you that your dining experience could stand to be a little more unique, or, should I say, more “American”? From juicy burgers to refreshing smoothies, this week’s spotlighted eatery will have you channeling your inner American!
Introducing MoMo’s KL, the Ormond Group’s latest hospitality concept, which is more of a stylish local hangout than a boutique hotel! With 99 guest rooms, dynamic communal spaces, a self-serve dive bar, and cultural programmes, MoMo’s has become one of Chow Kit’s – and KL’s – hotspots.
Thanks to interiors by Sydney-based studio Akin Atelier, everything about the hotel is so aesthetically distinctive. The micro-rooms – while small – have everything a guest could want, from plush beds to mood lighting and smart TVs. And throughout the hotel, the aesthetic vibe is made up of raw concrete, laminated wood, cactuses, posters and combed plaster, which complement the dusty pinks, washed greens, and aged brass found on furnishings, fabrics and objects. Definitely like those American diners you see on television – and I loved it!
This year, MoMo’s is about to hit customers with something different (hint: it has something to do with Ramadan!). ‘Mo’ Feast, Mo’ Fun’ is the theme for Ramadhan 2022, which adds new, exciting, and appealing products to the hotel’s menu. MoMo’s is known for its juicy burgers (their beef burgers are to-die for) and hotdogs that will satisfy your taste buds – but this year, they are introducing a variety of waffles, sides, and milkshakes to delight all foodies in KL. Whether you want to eat a whole meal or sneak in some snacks, they’ve got you covered.
Calling all savoury food enthusiasts – try MoMo’s Salmon Avocado Waffle Sandwich and Fricken’ Chicken Waffle Sandwich for only RM25 each. The Salmon Avocado Waffle Sandwich combines smoked salmon slices with fresh guacamole, a fluffy omelette, sour cream, and chives on a classic waffle spread. The Fricken’ Chicken Waffle Sandwich combines flawlessly deep-fried chicken with melted cheddar, mayonnaise, and spring onions on a classic waffle. I never thought of combining dessert with savoury before, very unusual! But, without a doubt, it wowed me. I liked the balance of sweetness from the waffles and savoury from the chicken and fish.
If you only have a tiny appetite (I feel sad for you), mix and match their new side menu for RM15 each. For fusion food fans, there’s MoMo’s Meatballs, which are house-made beef meatballs mixed in a sweet and sour creamy tomato sauce. The meatballs are extremely juicy and delicious, and the sauce simply bursts with flavour. Next up are the Spicy Wings, Mild Wings, and Spiced Popcorn Chicken, specially made for huge chicken fans. The Spicy Wings are deep-fried wings and drumettes seasoned in herbs and spices, and served with sriracha sauce for that spicy devilish taste. If you want to play things safe, order the Mild Wings, which come with cheese sauce.
In celebration of Ramadan, the Spiced Popcorn Chicken pays homage to Malaysia’s more traditional flavours: deep-fried chicken bits coated in curry leaves and served with sweet and sour chilli. It sure did taste like home to me! To round out your meal, try one of their new milkshakes, such as the Lemon Gula Melaka, Banana Avocado, or Mango Coconut. For only RM22, you may sip and slurp and enjoy the freshness. I tried the Mango Coconut and immediately felt like I was in the middle of summer. As I sipped my drink, I could taste bits of coconut, and the combination was delicious, especially with the fruit loops on top. All of their milkshakes are sweetly balanced, making them healthful and refreshing to consume while eating a heavy meal.
MoMo’s KL will feature unique dine-in and takeout choices for patrons during Ramadhan, from 1 – 30 April 2022 at 7:30pm – 9:00pm. For RM68, you can get 1 serving of burger/hot dog, unlimited iced tea, sides, and ice cream when you dine-in for iftar. You can top up with an extra RM10 and get 1 serving of milkshake (French Vanilla/Double Chocolate). For RM88, you may get the takeaway bundle, including two types of burgers/hotdogs/waffles, two drinks (Earl Grey Berry Iced Tea, Virgin MoMojito, French Vanilla or Double Chocolate Milkshake), and two sides (Spicy or Mild Wings, Spiced Popcorn Chicken, MoMo’s Meatballs).
Also, you can choose to book a room with them (might need it after the food coma), for as low as RM110. With minimalist themes and a cute pink door, choose from Bunkies, Crashpads and Crashpads for 2 to enjoy a relaxing stay in the bustling city. For more details on their rooms, visit their website.
So partake in the most American of feasts to ignite the spirit of Ramadhan with your family, friends and coworkers, as there is always something for everyone to enjoy during this holy month of fasting.
