The ongoing ESMOD Kuala Lumpur Fashion Show showcases the works of a new batch of soon-to-be grads who are ready to storm the international runways. The phenomenal event – from March 26 to 31 – highlights innovative and impressive outfits designed by students of the famed fashion design school at The One Academy.
Up to 19 talented young designers are exhibiting their creative and skillful artistry around the subject “Eclectitsch,” which combines the words “eclectic” and “kitsch.” The concept behind this intriguing theme encompasses a wide range of motifs that come together to create a highly varied, slightly kitsch atmosphere.
A panel of judges comprised of numerous important figures in the field, including fashion designers Bon Zainal and Bernard Chandran, as well as other industry professionals, are evaluating the designers’ collections.
Let’s jump into some of the most amazing designs by ESMOD’s talented designers for this year’s fashion show:
Eugene Chow
Eugene Chow exhibited his “The Back of Beyond” collection, which consists of stone-colored monochrome garments. His artwork portrays the reality of an introvert who prefers isolation.
Samantha Low Jia En
“Embracing Growth,” Samantha Low Jia En’s vibrant and striking collection, is about finding joy in the turmoil of growing up. The eye-catching patterns feature bold and imaginative colour combinations and complex cuts.
Eunice Ong Xiao Qing & Ryan Lee Chi Yeng
Eunice Ong Xiao Qing’s newest collection, “Testimony of the Ancient,” is influenced by gothic architecture and 16th century sculptures. Bold outfits that eloquently and correctly convey her topic. Ryan Lee Chi Yeng’s stunning design collection, “An Antonian Affair”, evokes ancient Roman society with a hint of illness.
Sunny Hoe Zhi San & Wong Nee Co
Through her collection “Tainted,” Sunny Hoe Zhi San demonstrates how a fall from tremendous innocence hurts the most, once you realise you are tainted. An exquisite collection comprised of lovely and complex silhouettes that brilliantly depict her subject, Wong Nee Co’s collection “Women Are More Than That” redefines the traditional position of women by displaying strong and forceful statements in dynamic silhouettes and daring colours.
These are only a few examples of the many collections on exhibit. The designers will vie for honours in the categories of “Best Fashion Design” and “Best Pattern Making.”
If you can’t get enough of these talented students’ gorgeous and fantastic designs, a fashion show featuring the designs of 30 students will be staged at Level 3, Shoppes, Four Seasons Place, Kuala Lumpur, from the 26th to the 31st of March.
