The Chinese New Year celebration means that Malaysians have a long holiday in store – and despite the ongoing pandemic, we’re all itching to hit the road. Many of us will return to our hometowns, but others will use this opportunity to travel and visit major domestic and regional tourist hotspots. Those of you who belong to the latter group may already have a destination in mind – but if you don’t, we gotchu. Here’s a list of some of the best places to visit during this long festive holiday.

Cameron Highland, notably Flora Park, is the place to go to if you wish for a calming and soothing experience while basking in the glow of natural sunlight. It also has rows upon rows of beautiful flowers throughout the premises, delighting your eyes with their colourful vibrancy. Walk up steps bordered by purple blooms that seem to accompany you with each and every tread. There is a wide variety of flora, and with the perfect sundress, you’ll look as if you’re a delicate fairy strolling along through a field of flowers.

Melaka

In love with the therapeutic ambience of beaches? Klebang Beach, Melaka is just the place for you. Low tide, combined with a large expanse of sand dunes, is the ideal setting for taking lovely, picturesque photos to decorate your Instagram feed. Feel the gentle caress of the glorious wind on your cheeks as you breathe in the fresh air and the fragrance of the salty sea, and you will be filled with nothing but peace.

Strut down one of the biggest attractions in Ipoh – Concubine Lane! Colorful paintings, Instagrammable cafés, and delectable street delicacies line the famed alley! Your belly will be stuffed to bursting with their delectable dishes, from Tau Fu Fa to Rainbow Cheese Toast. So, if your family are foodies, you’ll want to pay Concubine Lane a visit.

Singapore

Some of you may have relatives in Singapore, and with the easy, post-pandemic cross-border travel arrangement with the island nation, you may wish to visit some of the destinations we’re about to mention. After all, what could be better than ringing in the Year of the Tiger in the gorgeous city-state?

Chinatown

A bevvy of Chinese New Year activities take place in Singapore’s Chinatown, which features zodiac calendar-themed light-ups. Join the “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Chinese New Year Walking Tour” for insight into the historic sites of Chinatown; discover the hidden symbolism and meaning of its architecture; and be inspired by ancient wisdom, in addition to all the spectacular street light-ups.

Dahlia Dreams at Gardens by the Bay

For a more floral-themed tiger-inspired backdrop, go to Gardens by the Bay’s Chinese New Year floral show, Dahlia Dreams. To celebrate the Year of the Tiger, there will be cute tiger cub sculptures on exhibit, as well as lucky decorations such as giant coin pouches (福袋) and couplets (春联) signifying great luck and wealth.

Universal Studios Singapore

Take a trip along Hollywood Boulevard and bask in all the auspiciousness around you with rows of lovely cherry blossom wishing trees and meet Master Tigress and Po the Dragon Warrior from Kung Fu Panda for that ideal photo session.

In the Year of the Tiger at Singapore’s Funan

At Creative Intersections, Funan’s first mall-wide art activation, get some Instagram-worthy images. Singapore Art Week 2022 includes the exhibition Creative Intersections: In the Year of the Tiger, organised by Chan + Hori Contemporary. From special workshops from BERNINA Singapore to Love, Bonito’s image of powerful femininity which accentuates the tigress among their items, expect to witness a slew of partnerships that bring art into the realms of fashion, gastronomy, and lifestyle.
