The first thing that comes to mind whenever we talk about fashion runways is, of course, fashion. But, there is so much more that goes into these glamorous events. Each element of a runway, such as the location, the theme, and the lighting are meticulously thought out. Many designers and high fashion brands have been constantly reinventing fashion shows throughout the years. Ahh… the things we do for fashion!
Here are 5 of the craziest fashion runway shows ever!
Fendi, Autumn/Winter 2007 “Ready-to-Wear” at the Great Wall of China
Yes, you read that right, the GREAT WALL OF CHINA! What’s crazier than that?! Fendi’s Autumn/Winder 2007 Ready-to-Wear show made history when it took place at the Great Wall of China, at Juyongguan Pass. The entire show consisted of 88 looks, and by the end of the show, the Fendi logo was projected onto the surrounding mountains by huge strobe lights!
Jana Nedzvetskaya’s Spring/Summer 2015 “Harmagedon” Underwater Fashion Show
This Russian designer took our breath away when they pulled off an actual fashion show underwater. Needless to say, everyone’s jaw dropped when the models started jumping into water! Equipped with underwater filming equipment, they were able to capture the model’s elegant poses underwater, which showcased their flowy garments.
Pierre Cardin’s Spring/Summer 2008
After going underwater, let’s dry up, by going to the desert. Pierre Cardin’s spectacular Spring/Summer 2008 collection took place in the desert in the Whistling Sand Mountain in China’s Gansu province. This iconic collection was launched 30 years after Pierre Cardin launched his first collection in China.
McQueen’s Fall/Winter 1998 “Joan”
In reference to the Catholic martyr, ‘Joan of Arc’, McQueen used metal mesh, bald caps, and red contact lenses to create an absolute fiery madness for his Fall/Winter 1998 show. But what stood out was the finale, when a model walked to the center of the runway and a ring of fire was lit around her. Everyone was certainly fired-up after seeing that masterpiece unfold!
Chanel, Autumn/Winter 2017 “Ready-to-Wear”
We’ve been to the Great Wall of China, we’ve been underwater, we’ve been to the desert, and we’ve been to hell. Where do we go from there? SPACE, of course! Chanel’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection took us to a galaxy far, far away where they created a makeshift space station with a life-sized rocket ship in the middle of the runway. To take it up a notch, the rocket ship was actually blasted 10 meters into the air!
