It’s almost the new year, and we’re all in need of a little freshening up. Some of us have been cooped up in our homes and gazing at our décor for far too long, and it’s starting to seem a little uninspiring. So it’s time to freshen up our living spaces by changing or adding some new and improved décor.
Plus, with a new year comes new trends and it’s always great to be ahead for when a new fad comes out. So, to make your life a tad bit easier, we’ve gathered some of the features of home décor and interior design that we believe will be popular in the new year.
Feature Wall Arch
In the realm of interior-TikTok, there has been loads of house refurbishment videos since the beginning of the pandemic. Everyone has nothing to do at home, so they spruce things up in their rooms. The top feature that everyone embraced was adding a featured arch wall in their living room – and we personally think it will be here to stay. It adds a statement to your room and will foreground parts of the room that you want your guests to notice. If you wish to include this feature in one of your rooms, watch this TikTok video made by Becca Larkin on how to paint an arch wall:

Houseplants
People have been bringing plants inside their homes for some strange reason, which has resulted in their homes becoming borderline jungles – and we’re not mad about it. Because city living might be stressful for some, it’s really relaxing to gaze at and be surrounded by plants. Because of the soothing impact that plants have, they can also help to alleviate anxiety. They also promote cleaner air for your room, which is a major plus point. Just remember to give the plants all their basic needs and to look after them at all times.
Neutral With A Pop Of Colour
Whether it’s our cosmetics or our safe haven, we enjoy neutral tones. Browns, beiges and camel provide a soothing ambience in our homes, and they’re timeless hues that can alter our living quarters. Add a splash of colour with some vibrant motifs or décor to add texture to an area, while still displaying your personality. Adding colour to a room always lifts the atmosphere, no matter how drab the surroundings are.
A Touch Of Black
If you want a more sophisticated appearance to your interior design, use a hint of black throughout your entire living space. It’s a wonderful way to add some flair and complexity to a more minimalistic space by using just the right amount of it. While it’s obvious that black exudes refinement and elegance, using too much of it can make your house look dreary and lifeless.
Vintage & Upcycled
We should all strive to be more eco-conscious about our lifestyles in 2022. So, while you’re thrifting for clothes, try to look out for vintage furniture and decorations as well! One-of-a-kind pieces are a rarity and it’s always nice to add something to your home that none of our neighbours have. Vintage shopping is not only cost-effective and environmentally friendly, but also adds character to a room. As a result, incorporating thrifted and one-of-a-kind décor in your house will result in a bright and fun atmosphere in your living areas.
