As most of us spent 2021 indoors due to the ongoing pandemic, purchasing home decorations (online) and furniture rearrangement were the sources of some of our entertainment.
Here are some of 2021’s hottest home decor trends:
Home Office Interior
2021 saw a part of our home converted into an office where we could WFH. Vibrant accents, natural features and plenty of greenery, coupled with energic color palettes that included bright red, bright yellow, and neon green gave us great home workspaces.
Maximalist
The total opposite of minimalist decorating, maximalism channels the creative side of the decorator, combining patterns, colours, and textures to create a luxurious and individualized atmosphere. Although it may appear chaotic to some, maximalism has a unified, deliberate look that is endearing.
Pantone Color of the year 2021 – Ultimate Grey & Illuminating
Pantone’s colour of the year for 2021 is Ultimate Grey & Illuminating which in layman’s terms is grey and yellow. Two unusual colour choices but, they worked as combination.
Abstract Pieces
Abstract art has been a contributor in modern home furniture design, especially for minimalist styles. Curvy seats, imaginative shapes, and abstract light fixtures with eye-catching metal components were popular in 2021.
Cottagecore
Cottagecore isn’t just a fashion trend, it’s also a home decor trend of 2021. Cottagecore began as a very simple style, now it’s combined with a touch of glitz to create a luxurious traditional look. Elegant antique style barware, gilded silverware, and statement gold accessories are all affordable ways to achieve the design, and dashes of British oddity will keep the aesthetic grounded.
Vintage = Good
Vintage decor never goes out of style. For a lively, unified aesthetic, use strong colors, beloved pieces, and a less-is-more approach to reference, rather than rigidly duplicate the look. The key to this strategy is to use a lot of contrast. Gradually build up a vintage-style scheme. It’s the type of aesthetic that requires layering, so consider items that have meaning over time.
Multipurpose Spaces
With WFH, multipurpose furniture – such as bookshelves with extendable tables – come in handy.
Houseplants
If going outside is a no-no for 2021, why not bring outside inside. Houseplants are beautiful items that provide fresh air, filters out air pollutants, and provide oxygen. Houseplants are inexpensive to have as well and could be placed in any room at home.
Rustic Vogue
A more polished version of Cottagecore works best in homes that already have some unique features, such as exposed beams, original floors, or paneled walls, but it may also be recreated with a thoughtful mix of old and contemporary pieces that complement each other.
Bold With Muted Colors
Use bold colours like red, orange and blue against muted colours like white to bring in personality to make the decor stand out.
Home decor trends of 2021 were largely dictated by the fact that most of us had to spend much more time at home due to the pandemic. And our homes have largely benefitted from it.
