Lately, it comes to show that British singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock has been living up to Little Mix’s Wings as she takes on big projects outside of the girl group and just recently, becoming a mother of two!
This festive season, Leigh-Anne will be hitting the big screens and making her film debut in her up and coming Christmas film Boxing Day. The English singer/songwriter will be starring as Georgia -also a singer-, an ex-girlfriend of Melvin (Aml Ameen), a British author living in America who returns to London for Christmas to introduce his American fiancée, Lisa (Aja Naomi King), to his eccentric British-Caribbean family.

Leigh-Anne expressed her excitement when she shared the movie poster on Instagram, where she wrote: “I am truly honoured to have been able to be apart of this film but also truly proud, to witness the arrival of a film that celebrates black culture, black talent and black love. @amlameenbaby wrote this film not conforming to what society associates with black culture. We don’t always have to dominate films associated with crime and violence. The spotlight really shines on us all so differently in this film and I can’t wait for you guys to witness it.”

While we hope to see Leigh-Anne star in more films, she has also been featured in not one but two documentaries centered on colourism and racial issues in the film & music industry. Following the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement, the documentary film titled ‘Leigh-Anne: Race, Pop & Power’ comprises conversations regarding the issues of racism and colourism which are ever-present in the black and brown community.
Along with her family, close friends and fiancé Andre Gray, the ‘Shout out to My Ex’ singer shares her own experiences of racial discrimination in her personal life and as a pop artist. The documentary went on to receive a nomination from the National Television Award for Best Authored Documentary and won the award for Media Progress Moment at the Ethnicity Awards.
Leigh-Anne is seen filming for her documentary at the Black Lives Matter protests in London.

Leigh-Anne stated that the documentary was made to reach out to a wider audience and propel the discourse of racial injustice within society. According to Capital FM, the 30-year old singer explained: “Systematic racism is complex; through making this documentary I want to learn how I can best lend my voice to the debate so that the young people who look up to me won’t have to face what me and my generation have had to.”

Being part of the biggest British girl group of the 21st century, Leigh-Anne is making big moves in using her platform to stand up for the rights of black people. The ‘Sweet Melody’ singer also starred in a four-part documentary series by YouTube Originals called ‘The Outsiders?’ which follows the racism experiences of black artists and celebrities.
Featuring the likes of Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa, Marsai Martin, British radio presenter Clara Amfo and more, ‘The Outsiders?’ delves into the personal stories and struggles of young black talents who face the challenge of constantly being rejected in society as well as overcoming issues with self-identity and racial stereotypes. From her earliest childhood encounter with racism to her experience as the only black girl in Little Mix, Leigh-Anne opens up about how she never felt good enough and has had moments where she questions her role in the girl group.

With all that’s going on, the ‘Confetti’ singer and her beloved fiancé, whom she got engaged to last May, happily announced the birth of their twins back in August. Although it is a huge milestone for Leigh-Anne, the Little Mix star only broke the news to the public a week after giving birth and stated that she wishes to keep it to herself, including their baby names, simply referring to her newborns as “Our Cubbies”.
So far, Leigh-Anne has taken on the titles of an artist, actor, filmmaker, and now she has taken on the role of a mother! Though nothing seems to be stopping the hot Mama as she has recently announced that she will be hosting the MOBO awards next week with British-Zimbabwean comedian Munyaradzi Chawawa.
