In April, 2021, Ain Husniza made a groundbreaking allegation against her male teacher regarding a rape joke he made during his teaching in her class. Posted on her Tik Tok account after getting home from school, her viral video made national headlines, with most netizens coming to her aid for support.

Ain Husniza brought up an issue that is constantly being neglected by school authorities. Now that she has caught the attention of many people, this issue won’t be swept under the rug anymore. With so many people behind her, including NGOs such as All Women’s Action Society (AWAM), there are those that went completely against her. Some, including her former counseling teacher, even tried to gaslight her into thinking that what she heard was “normal”.

During the grueling following months of facing her own school that betrayed her and going through online hatred and abuse, she has since been speaking out about multiple issues that students suffer in schools. Issues like period spot checks, which are considered to be a form of sexual harassment made against children. Ain Husniza became the voice for students who are unable to speak out about problematic issues happening in their school and made a campaign to #MakeSchoolASaferPlace.

Despite experiencing online vitriol and allegedly receiving rape threats, she continues to advocate for students’ rights and spread awareness about issues that are constantly being overlooked.

In recent news about Ain Husniza, we’ve learned that she enrolled in a new private school two weeks ago. In a tweet by her father, Saiful Nizam, which has garnered over 2k retweets, Ain can be seen happily skipping in her new school compound after being enrolled there.

It was a joyous moment for her, as she can finally escape from the eyes of her former school authorities and classmates. However, enrolling in a new school doesn’t exclude her from people continuing to spew hatred towards her.

Twitter

Some of the comments above are only touching the surface of what she may receive daily. One of the comments said:

She seems to be completely exaggerating. Even the court couldn’t prove that the male teacher is guilty..

Another one commented:

I bet the teachers in her private school will have to teach her with caution… people who misunderstand are difficult to deal with… when we talk about something else, she thinks about something else..

Ain Husniza brought up an issue regarding rape culture that is often ignored by the vast majority. Rape jokes contribute heavily to rape culture because these jokes are never just “jokes”. There is a deep-rooted issue when it comes to jokes that make light of violence against women and children. A rape joke is never just a joke and should never be at the expense of other people.

Rape culture is prevalent, with many rape and sexual harassment incidents surfacing after victims speak out on their social media pages. Spreading awareness about it has already made its impact, thanks to Ain Husniza and her campaign for the betterment of students. It’s vital that this dangerous culture be eradicated for the safety of all people, regardless of age and gender.
