KLFW returned last week to celebrate the world of Malaysian fashion after a one-year hiatus from the physical runway. As a result of the pandemic pushing the nation into lockdown in 2020 and due to the uncertainty of government regulations, the city’s biggest fashion event was held online as a digital/broadcasting show which seemed to completely alter the Malaysian fashion landscape.
There was a lot of anticipation to view this year’s stunning designs in person.
Hence, KLFW 2021 promised to come back bigger and better – and it did not disappoint. From 1st November to 7th November 2021, 26 physical shows sashayed down the runway, and featured the likes of Alia Bastamam, Fiziwoo, and more. Given that last year’s online event shifted the perspective of runway fashion, KLFW 2021 opted to exhibit 12 virtual shows which were broadcast on YouTube from 11th November to 13th November.
Established as an annual event for the local fashion industry, KLFW this year reinstated the Thread of Heritage, A Truly Malaysian Textiles Exhibition to pay tribute to Malaysia’s fashion versatility and lavish materials.
The objective of this showcase was to raise awareness about our local textiles, while also generating appreciation for their exquisite beauty and history.
