Drawing upon their past to map out the future – ASICS SportStyle announce the GEL-1130™, a remixed version of a classic silhouette that is built on the foundation of ASICS performance and innovation with a fashion-forward design.
Part of the GEL-1000 lineage, the model took its design inspiration from the GEL-KAYANO 14™ sneaker as well as the footwear resurgence seen in the late 2000s.
The focus of the GEL-1000™ series was to expand on the innovative designs ASICS was already creating.
This new model has fused that history with the modern, streetwear aesthetic which allows the sneaker to toe the line between performance wear and leisure.
The global campaign aims to highlight the shoe’s versatility, by spending time with two very diverse crews and allowing them to showcase how the GEL-1130™ fits their groups very unique style.
On Lunch Break is a multidisciplinary group of creative based in NYC dedicated to documenting and creating visuals of the community around them, and Sabukaru, a digital publication based in Tokyo, focused on highlighting Japan’s unique subcultures.
Alongside the OG inspired colour, there are three other executions of the GEL-1130™, with eight different colourways available.
Kiko Kostadinov Studios and the ASICS SportStyle development team designed a version that sports synthetic leathers and technical mesh that gives the model a more streamlined look.
The colour pallets align with the label’s esoteric aesthetic. The third colourway is a Women’s style inspired by Sukajan (signature) jackets and features a satin embellishment with a metallic sheen. The final style is a Men’s variation that replaces the traditional materials with synthetic leathers and muted suedes in a darker, more neutral look.
The GEL-1130™ retails for RM 379 and is available on ASICS.com
