Going bald for any woman is a difficult decision. It’s easy to be judged and one of the most common misconceptions that come with shaving your head is that you are suffering from cancer and that your lack of hair is a result of chemotherapy. Indeed, baldness has always been synonymous with cancer and tomorrow, eleven women from BALD is Empowering will be going under the scissors as part of a fundraising campaign in conjunction with A Cut Above to raise funds for cancer patients.

All proceeds from this campaign which will run from January 15th to March 7th will be donated to MAKNA, the National Cancer Council whose missions are to provide curative, preventive, research and support services to cancer patients and their families, high-risk groups and the general public of Malaysia and the rest of the world.

This campaign is also supported by radio stations 988 and CapitalFM 88.9. You can contribute to this cause through the following actions:

1. Share this event on your FB wall and with your networks.
2. Make a donation through Paypal, Bank Transfer of cheque.
3. Volunteer for the event

Event date : 8th Mar 2012
Time: 10.00 am-1.00 pm
Venue : MidValley Megamall, A Cut Above
Funds Target: RM200,000
Currently Collected: RM56,674.70

Introducing the 11 women who are part of the Bald is Empowering movement and a little message from them about the campaign:

“No cancer patients choose to have it, but cancer have a pick on them. Not only facing the deteriorating mental and physical health but also some could be in bad financial situation.

We can’t help treating them but we can contribute a little by helping the poor financially. Knowing that they are valued by others is an important psychological factor in helping them to forget the negative aspects of their lives, and thinking more positively about their environment. Annually MAKNA support over 4,500 patients nationwide. RM 9 million is needed every year to financially assist cancer patients.”

Producer, actor and songwriter Dennis Lau will also be going bald to show his support. The event will be officiated by State Assemblyman for Subang Jaya, Selangor. YB Hannah Yeoh and emceed by 8TV Quickie personality Megan Tan.

It’s your final two days to dig deep into your pockets and help contribute to this wonderful cause! You can follow their progress and get involved by visiting Simply Giving and Bald Is Empowering. See you at MidValley’s A Cut Above on March 8th!
