Taranjit Cheema, a designer from Canada breaths a keen sense of colour and style into Asian fashion. She aspires to create Indian culture-inspired masterpieces, crushing crazy beauty standards in the fashion industry.
Cheema moved to Vancouver after graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York City, where she noticed a need in the market for integrating Indian materials in a Western silhouette.
She boldly launched her very own brilliant brand, incorporating Indian and western designs birthing TKC Design in May 2016.
Cheema shared her journey on embarking on this mind-blowing fashion line with Daily Hives stating;
“We have many cultures and ethnicities that are represented here in Canada, so it was really special and unique to incorporate my culture into the TKC brand.”

The designer predominantly specializes in Indian textiles, namely 100 per cent silk and cotton, as well as acrylic embroidery and beadwork. She crafts her designs in Vancouver and works exclusively with a tailor in Jalandhar, India.
Each of TKC’s clothing is visibly weaved with a great deal of enthusiasm as it excites the designer to see many people wanting to wear her designs and diversify the platform she has established in the global market.
Cheema further explained on her milestone in showcasing her lingerie line at the Vancouver Fashion Week as;
“Our recent lingerie collection at Vancouver Fashion Week was inspired by talking about sex, sexuality, and slut-shaming culture, especially in the South Asian community. It’s not something people talk a lot about and it’s definitely frowned upon. So this was about having women be more aware that it’s okay. It’s okay to be bold, beautiful, sexy, and confident.”
