The social media universe has been fuming over a recent statement made by renowned, high profile Ellen DeGeneres who admitted publicly on Jimmy Kimmel’s show that she drove her wife Portia De Rossi to the hospital, whilst being high on drugs. She had consumed three “weed drinks” and over-the-counter sleep aids.
On a marijuana-themed segment of Jimmy Kimmel Live on 4/20 Day this week, the comedian, 63, made the shocking revelation, telling Kimmel she had consumed three cans of a cannabis-infused tonic drink and taken over-the-counter sleeping pills when she discovered her wife wriggling in pain on the bathroom floor.
DeGeneres also went on to acknowledge that what she did was “probably not safe.” Nevertheless, her statement had received a whole lotta backlash from netizens on how her careless behaviour could have caused detrimental results including costing her own life and that of her wife Portia de Rossi.
Her full acclamation about the unforgettable event was done very precisely and in detail stating;
Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks, they’re called Cann, and they have CBD or (THC), I don’t know what the good thing is. I drank one, and I didn’t feel anything, so I drank three, and then I took two melatonin sleep pills,” she continued.
Then as she slipped into bed, she realised her wife was not next to her on the bed and got out to find her moaning on the floor, suffering miserably in pain.
I said, ‘You’re not OK.’ She goes, ‘I’m OK.’ I said, ‘No, unless you’re playing Twister by yourself, you’re not OK.’ Immediately collecting herself up, getting on her feet, quickly gushing her over to the medics as soon as possible, putting all thoughts behind worrying entirely about her wife’s sufferings.
As Kimmel, asked DeGeneres, “You drove her by yourself?”, “I did,” she replied. “I mean, I kicked in, like my adrenaline, because I just had to rush her there. It’s probably not safe.
Admitting she shouldn’t be sharing any of these deets… However, I believe what she did was an instant trigger of action upon seeing her loved one struggling in pain on the floor. It was a spontaneous reaction that we would all have done if we were to be found in a hypothetical situation as such.
However, we also learnt that Portia had to undergo an immediate appendix surgery after arriving at the emergency ward. Ellen’s quick action had beyond a doubt help save Portia’s live in the nick of time.
Coming from the public point of view, yes, driving under the influence has huge consequences and has cost the lives of many.
It’s important for us to be able to gather our thoughts and think straight during worrisome situations like this to not cause any inimical results guys. Most drivers who are caught in car crashes are often found either to have consumed alcohol or consumed drugs like marijuana!
Let’s not put the life our loved ones at stake due to our negligence or unpremeditated actions!
