We are all guilty of either sitting too long or sitting incorrectly. This directly results to a bad posture overtime, which many are unaware of. It might not be obvious at first, but when people start to correct your posture or ask why are your shoulders dropping, only then it will strike you that your posture has changed.

Spinal Backrack

Many automatically dive in their comfortable slouching position without realizing it, but if it is not corrected, over time the position can cause strain in the sensitized muscle and tissue. Fortunately, there are ways you can correct your posture, and it doesn’t cost a penny. What helps is being observant and aware of your sitting position.

If you are a victim of having improper posture or want to avoid having one, these 4 simple method can help you achieve just that.

1. Avoid slouching

Whenever you slouch, your spine is not in a straight position, which impacts your posture. Overtime, your spine will get used to the bended posture, leading to pains and aches. The best posture is standing tall and upright. Whenever you are standing, be aware that your head, shoulders, hips and knees line up.

2. Do not slump

Most of us are guilty of slumping at our workstations. Our neck gets tired looking at the screen for a prolonged duration and we give in to slumping. Avoid this posture because again, it is bending your spice and causing serious strain on your backbone. Instead, make sure your back is straight, and get up and walk every once in a while.

3. Don’t bend your next when looking at your phone

One might ask, how do I avoid bending my neck to look down at my phone? Obviously it is hard to avoid this posture in this digital age where we rely on our phones for almost everything. This posture is so popular that there’s even term for it, a ‘text-neck’  But simple tweaks can help avoid having stiff necks. Try to keep your phone held up at eye-level as much as possible. Remind yourself every time to avoid bending your neck. As they say, practice makes perfect.

4. Avoid cross-legged sitting

As professional and comfortable sitting crossed-legged can be, it is not doing entirely good to your spine. Many are unaware that the position shifts one’s body alignment over time. If you are fan of this position, then you might experience lower back pain occasionally. As boring as it is, the best way to sit is actually by grounding both your feet firmly on the floor.

So, these are the 4 basic steps. Follow obediently and you could be looking at a straighter body posture in no time at all.
