Getting a good night’s sleep is crucial, as that’s the time your body and cells work hard to repair and rejuvenate the body. However, since technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, it might hinder one from catching a sound sleep, due to the blue light causing interference with your mind. If you have been lacking quality sleep or experiencing sleepless nights, fortunately, there are some small things you can do to help you sleep better at night and wake up restored the next day!
1. Don’t drink that cup of coffee in the evening
We all know how tempting it can be to indulge in that comforting cup of coffee after dinner. However, caffeine is the biggest culprit in keeping you awake at night. Even if you’re able to handle caffeine well, avoiding it would be the best solution, because as we age, our body has more difficulty in recovering from caffeine
2. Have a cup of chamomile tea
It is not scientifically proven that consuming herbal tea at night can cure insomnia. Some claim it is, while others are not yet convinced. Nevertheless, it can be nice to take a quiet moment before bed with a cup of hot chamomile tea to soothe your body.
3. Increase magnesium intake
Several studies claim that there is a link between poor sleep and insufficient magnesium intake. Therefore, include magnesium-rich foods in your diet for a better sleep at night. Some of these foods include, almonds, fish, chicken, bananas and leafy vegetables.
4. Put your phone away two hours before bed.
We know it is hard to stay away from a device which connects you to the whole world. Some enjoy scrolling through Facebook before going to sleep, but this habit will do you more damage than good in the long run. Putting your phone away at least one hour before bedtime will reward you with a calm mind which results to a sounder sleep.
5. Create a playlist with calming music
Music links to our mood and emotion. Therefore, listening to calming music before bedtime is a good way to calm your mind and body. Additionally, it can block any unwanted thoughts and keep your on track to remain calm.
