Whether you were unfortunately a victim of snatch theft or you somehow misplaced it while having inevitable travel high, losing your passport while overseas can be a major inconvenience.

Not only do you not have the proper documentation to be doing much, getting a temporary passport from your home country’s embassy is another hassle on its own.. that is IF the embassy is even close by.

Well, with this new decree under the Fees Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2019 of the Federal Government Gazette, you may want to take extra precautions to protect your passport at all costs should you be a Malaysian.

With effect from January 2nd, Malaysian citizens who lose or damage their passports will be fined between RM300 and RM1,200 for a replacement.

First-time offenders will be fined RM400, whereas children aged 12 and below as well as students aged 21 and below studying abroad will be fined RM300.

For a second replacement, the fine goes up to RM700 for Malaysians, and RM600 for children aged 12 and below, and students aged 21 and below studying abroad.

Those who lose or damage their passports for the third time will now be fined RM1,200, and RM1,100 for children aged 12 and below, and students aged 21 and below studying abroad.

Just make sure you don’t lose that damn passport if you don’t want to be penalised!
