Quintessential ’90s Irish boyband Westlife, sans Brian McFadden, broke hearts worldwide by announcing the band’s split back in 2012, after attaining 12 UK No. 1 singles, seven No. 1 albums and selling over 55 million records worldwide. And now, after months of rumours, the band has officially confirmed that they will be reuniting!
Comprising Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan, Westlife has recorded a whole new album and will be kicking things off with a bang via a stadium and arena tour in 2019. The show will go on without their fifth member Brian McFadden who quit in 2004, and the boys have also signed a new deal with Universal.
What makes their comeback even more significant is that the boys’ reunion also marks the 20th anniversary of the band’s formation. On the reunion, Shane, who stopped by Kuala Lumpur for a special one night-only showcase back in February 2018, said, “We genuinely missed each other and missed the buzz of performing on stage together to all our fans.”
Nicky added, “While we were away, we realised what Westlife really meant to the fans — and to us,” while Mark mentioned, “It felt so great to be back in the studio together and hanging out with each other again. It just felt right.” The most of them are now fathers and it is now time for the new generation, including their own children, to enjoy Westlife.
PS: Westlife has also got a brand new single in store that was written with the help of none other than Ed Sheeran! How exciting?!
