In case you missed it, renowned global hotelier Hilton has opened a new mid-range property under the Hilton Garden Inn franchise under its wing right in Kuala Lumpur, located in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Chow Kit area. This property in particular marks one of the first international hotel brands to open in the aforementioned neighbourhood, and it’s Hilton Garden Inn Kuala Lumpur Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman North we’re discussing here.
The property, which extends the best of both old world charm and modern living, offers upscale yet affordable accommodation ideal for business and leisure travellers alike. Albeit its lower price range, amenities aren’t lacking whatsoever, and comprises the all-day dining Garden Grille restaurant, a self-service laundromat, fitness center and Pavilion Pantry® for 24/7 on-the-go snacks.
Being the only on-site restaurant at the property, the Garden Grille restaurant is fuss-free and does the job with its array of Asian and Western fusion offerings, all of which are priced from RM20 onwards. With that said, the surrounding hotel area has plenty to offer as far as popular street dining is concerned and we would totally recommend hitting the road to check them out. Take our word for it: The more unassuming they seem, the better they most likely taste.
One of our biggest gripes about the property is the unfavourable parking situation. Not only was it inconvenient and quite the nightmare at the hotel basement, the amount of parking spots are also inadequate. With that said, this issue wouldn’t arise for travellers, who will find the Chow Kit Monorail train station extremely accessible, only a five-minute stroll away to be exact. Alternatively, ride-sharing services like Grab will be your best friend.
That aside, the spacious 265 guest rooms are no less than impressive. Our bright and cheery room had picturesque views of the iconic Twin Towers and boasts signature Hilton bedding, as well as the necessary amenities including a work desk, ergonomic desk chair, a mini fridge, coffee maker and a microwave, which is so, so convenient for families with small children or even in a pinch when heading out of your room doesn’t seem ideal.
Unfortunately, the 40-inch HDTV equipped in the room did not come with a HDMI port or wall socket, which means guests are only able to enjoy the selection of local and satellite TV channels on offer. It may be trivial for some, but it would have been a nice finishing touch. Imagine all the binge-watching on Netflix you could do! Aside from that, the room was tip-top and we especially adored the subway tiles in the bathroom.
Needless to say, we took advantage of being in the area by exploring our surroundings. Chow Kit, historically, is where it all began for the development of Kuala Lumpur, and the sights, sounds and smells to take in are limitless. A two-minute walk along Jalan Alang nearby the property will also send guests to the famed Chow Kit Market. Meanwhile, eat your heart out or immerse yourself in the rich culture that is unlike that of the other parts of the city.
