Selena Gomez hasn’t had the easiest time of her life as of late. It was just announced that the 25-year-old songstress had split from her on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber, but the more pressing issue here has to do with her health and wellbeing.
Last summer, the brave lupus sufferer had gone through a kidney transplant that had left her with a huge incision scar, and her body changing as a reaction.. which is why it is absolutely disgusting that netizens are leaving nasty remarks about her body following a string of her latest photos taken by the paparazzi.
The “Wolves” singer recently took a break in Sydney, Australia for vacation and trolls on the internet started saying that she looked “thick” or “pregnant”. And in a powerful response, Gomez said that taking care of herself is exactly what she will be doing, instead of giving in to unrealistic beauty standards.
In a Instagram video that has Alvvays’ “Dream Tonite” playing in the background, she says, “The beauty myth- an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfil society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty,” Gomez wrote. “I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails.”
Her bikini photos also unveiled her kidney complication scar for the first time, one that she personally chose not to remove cosmetically. In an interview with Billboard in November, the starlet said, “I do [feel comfortable with my scars]. I didn’t, but I do now.” You go, girl!
